I think I would respect that he admitted it but that doesnt forgive the actions.

My take is that he didn't really do anything evil. He's just a really old guy who probably couldn't believe what he was hearing about his long-time colleague and friend. He didn't want to believe it. He told someone else and wanted them to deal with it. That's clearly no consolation to the kids and their parents. And it sure isn't leadership. He should know enough to apologize and resign without being told. I doubt he does. Just like he doesn't know he's too old to be coaching a major college football team if he's been "coaching" it at all. I'd guess he's sort of like Junior Soprano.

Evil might be a strong word, that should probably be reserved for guys like Sandusky. But it is much worse than bad leadership. It's pretty unforgiveable to look the other way on something like this.

I'm not sure "looking the other way" is exactly the right way to put it. I just think he's a weak old man who probably would have handled it completely differently when he was fifty years old.

I've listened to B&b make fun of him like he was a feeble old fool who didn't know he was alive long before this story ever broke. I don't think theirs was an uncommon opinion of the man. Just a couple weeks ago I read an article wherein the author wondered if Paterno should actually be credited with Penn State's wins on his record. I just think it's disingenuous to suddenly turn around and act as if he was a guy one should have expected to have an iron grip on his program and the wherewithal to act strongly and decisively regarding a matter like this.

I'm not excusing him. He should have resigned already. And if he refuses he should be forced to. I think that will happen.

I would not be surprised that they let him finish the regular season and step down after 11/26.

There is a lot of difference in the 2011 version of Paterno and the 99 version.

Paterno stepping down (or being fired) won't mean a damn thing.

good dolphin is right; forgiveness is in the hands of others, and Paterno's part in this whole mess pales in comparison to that of the more "unforgivable" offense of Sandusky.

I actually feel bad for the old coot. Here's a guy that was once revered as royalty in a small town only to ultimately have his entire career tarnished by the selfish and despicable acts of another man.

If Paterno needs to step down, then so be it. But I would have no problem forgiving him for not properly handling a situation that was undoubtedly shocking to him as it was to any human being.

The dude had knowledge of a guy having sex with a kid in their locker room. He decided to not do anything about that, but let the guy continue to have access to their facilities. Sure it is not the same level of wrong as Sandusky, but Paterno is responsible in this case.
