I was driving home and i hear Larry doing his typical crap show. Who cares about who liked or disliked the Bears Convention. On top of that he had to enlighten his listeners with the difficult choice he has in choosing between a visor and a baseball hat. Who really gives an F-?

Its opening day of baseball and the Bulls are about to start the playoffs and we have to hear, "Girls wearing a ponytail through through baseball hat is HOt to me."

Plus he made the comment that "he really looks good in a cap". First of all Larry, unless that "cap" was covering your fat face, I dont think it makes much of a difference for you. Tomorrow it will be, "does my ass look fat in these jeans"?

Another stellar segment of the Larry HOlmes show i caught. Tonight i had to listen to a super great topic of, "What restaurant should we put in the location of JimBos?"

Yeah, I heard that. That may have been on Annie Maxfield level of radio garbage.

He was laughing that a Starbucks or (forgot the other place, he mentioned) should be put there...don't know why, but for whatever reason, he thought he was being clever. I turned my radio after listening to about 2 minutes of that.

I caught the beginning of his show today. Does this guy have the worst open in radio or what? It's disjointed, stagnant, and put together with a glue stick by a 2nd grader.

9 years and counting in radio, and larry is still one of the more brutal hosts in this market. a comparison that hasn't really come to mind until now is larry and david schuster. they're both pretty good radio reporters, but would you ever want to hear schuster host a show? i doubt it. i don't understand why larry enjoys the privilege of eating up 4-5 hours a night while better talents (paruch, goff, drinky, and bloomberg) scrap for air-time.

I have heard Schuster host, and he's brutal. I disagree that Holmes is a decent reporter. He's nowhere near as good as JD.

if you mean john dolgan (however you spell his name) of espn, agreed. i should have said "as good a reporter as the score has," and like i've said elsewhere, that only really applies to football, for me -- they should put him out to pasture between march and september.

also, it seems like every time i drive out to my girlfriend's place (in aurora, i live in the city) i have the misfortune of catching larry or zz. as much as i dislike larry, i think zaidman's even less worthwhile a listen.

Oh, Zaidman is vomit-inducing radio, too, although I think he's improving whereas Laurence is regressing.

By JD, I meant ESPN's Bears guy, Jeff Dickerson. His info is as good as or better than Laurence's, but he isn't anywhere as self-important. And he's a much smoother listen--more succinct and professional. I like that.

interesting point. i haven't heard a lot of him, as i'm not myself a huge bears fan (i'll stop repeating that after i reach 200 posts), and only occasionally listen to espn (though i'm really liking the carm/waddle pairing). i thought you meant dolgan, cause i thought he did a pretty good job of reporting on the sox and cubs back when sox games were on espn. in addition, i think it's a prevalent trait of espn reporters that they put greater emphasis on information than personality (excepting a guy like bruce levine, who i like despite his personality / voice). it can make for bland radio at times, but i'll take bland over obnoxious any time.

Larry telling everyone that he and Greg Walker had a real animated interview, but there is no soundbite of it. Ok, he is a reporter, but didn't tape it, uhmmmm..........ok.

RV - Very good; now don't forget he used to tell us about his "big catches" in Platteville; but of course we never saw them. We always heard he was with his fatal attraction Melissa.

Tonight, in addition, to his animated interview with 'Walk' as he called him, also was asked if Briggs could still be traded to the Redskins. Holmes said that 'talk show host' Holmes thought that there wouldn't be a trade, but he wasn't talking as reporter Holmes, and he hasn't talked to anyone in the organization regarding the Briggs situation.

That made me laugh. Even if reporter Holmes were in the studio, he'd still have no idea about whether Briggs would be traded because his guys, like Dez Clark, have NO IDEA!

On top of that, Holmes also found time in his 35 minute show to question why nobody cares about the Bulls. After all, nobody was sitting around the water cooler at work today talking about the Bulls/Nets game tonight. Maybe, nobody wants to talk basketball with you because all you do is say the fans don't care.

Oh, and going back to the Bears talk, Holmes made it sound as if he unearthed LeRon Laundry, the safety from LSU, today when saying IF the Bears made an imanginary trade, he'd make a lot of sense. Apparently, Holmes maybe thought that nobody had heard of him.

Yea, I heard that to. Larry's breaking stories consist of what he reads on the web, I am expecting him to break the story that the Bears have Adrian Peterson, but it isnt that Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma State, now thats reporting.

I bet Larry had invisible friends as a kid.

I was expecting him to mention that he believes that WR from Georgia Tech may go pretty high, and that would be a guy who'd look good on the Bears.

We're still waiting on those 4 breaking stories from 2004 Bears training camp.

What a terrible listen Holmes is @ 6am. He spends the first 20minutes of the show shouting and screaming with no discernible point to be found. I could tell ZZzzzzZ and Abattacolo were annoyed with his juvenile radio antics. You can easily read Larry's motives, "If i talk like a f-ing moron and make no sense at all, people will call and it will spark controversy, then i'll be popular!"

Horray for Audiobooks to keep me occupied.

Quad man - He's been trying that fake stuff for almost 10 years but he's never made a name for himself. You'd think he'd give it up by now. Good producer. Bad host. Failed salesman.

We had another Larry meat ball, macho moment today.

A caller called up Larry saying Gordon was clutch. Larry threw out that Gordon was 1-9 on game winning buzzer beaters.

The caller tried to point out that there was more to being clutch then that. He couldn't get a word in. But I'll say it for him. Scoring bunches in the 4th to get us out of a hole or just maintining a comfortable lead. That's just a few. I expanded on Gordon in the Bulls section.

But then at the end Larry and his "I'm from the south side, and I'll throw a puch" meat ball attitude came shinning out.

The caller was from Peoria. Larry ended the conversation by saying...

" Well, you're from Peoria and there aren't any good players out of Peoria so I'd like to play you one on one any day."

First of all Peoria has had some great teams and players but that's not the point.

What the hell does you beating a Peoria guy in one on one have to do with the Gordon debate.

This meatball comment by Larry beats any meatball comment heard from B&B callers ever. Drinky I want you to play this sound bite on B&B next to the other dumb caller sound bites. It was between 8-8:30 tonight.

Larry has a hard time proving his points. He was talking about the Cubs OF log jam and said C.Floyd is likely the one who they would trade.
Then he fails to explain why Floyd would be traded and goes off talking about how he reminds him of THOR because of how hard he hits the ball.

What? why in the world would they trade a player they just signed to fill an OF spot? Also, he is the best left handed pitch hitter off the bench in key situations. Floyd is not going anywhere. Pie is the one who should be send down. He obviously is having trouble hitting major league pitching as is not ready. Pinella also commented saying the Veterans get the nod over the younger players because it makes for a better clubhouse.

Larry, you should not be hosting a radio show. You are better off giving Bear updates.

I think Larry forgot something, Floyd cant be traded till June I think because he was signed as a free agent, so Jones would go if they could find a taker.

Larry has been shoving this whole Thor thing for three days now and he finaly got Uncle Fuzzy to agree with him that it is funny. Larry seems lost as ever when trying to invent a on air persona these days. I wont lie, I use to like him on the air, but over the last year he has just become sooooo horrible. Actually sorta sad.

Larry made the "Thor" comment about Floyd with Zac. Zac didn't laugh or acknollege how great and clever the comment was.

So Larry repeated the "Thor" comment and laughed at his self perceived cleverness to show Zac and others how great the comment was. It was truely pathetic
