For? $$?

I am not doubting it as Buerhle falls right into family.

Well if Sox fans aren't smart enough to start threads about off season moves, I guess I will need to continue to do so.

ESPN and SiriusXM’s Jim Bowden last week estimated that Buehrle will receive the fourth-highest average annual value of any free agents on the market, landing a deal for $16 million a year over four years (compared to five years at $15 million a year for Wilson).

What do the Sox experts Keysor, Peeps, KMartiN? Then what does Frank think about that?

Perosnally I thought it was quite a bit of money for a team cash strapped for a jounreyman that had an ERA of over 5.00 for you last year.

Scott Gregor, semi Sox apologist/beat writer, who provides all the good stuff for the new coaching staff even asked Ranger if this signing surprised him, as Gregor basically said it was a bad signing.

My guy Ranger even drops a "Welll....Kinda......but maybe they see something in him?" Just doing his job.

But, just dont think it was a great signing. Think you can find guys for the same role, laying around looking for a job for 25% of the money.

It was a surprising decision. They could have saved some money here. I'm not sure why decided to bring him back - not only is he pricy, but he wasn't very good after he was traded here (although he does have a good overall track record). It seems like a risk that they can't afford to make. It probably also means that somebody who is making money in the bullpen (Thornton comes to mind, although with Sale in the rotation, that removes 2 good lefties) will be moved. For all we know, it could be Frasor still as well if the Sox think they can move and get a decent prospect.

Thank You. He is just a guy. Keyser and the newest member the Sox ALS KMart seem to disagree

The current trend? signing Bullpen depth for 3-4 years???? Not for one of the last guys in your pen. Especially 31 year old guys that had 5.09 ERA's. Thornton only got 2 years. There will be a guy that is as good or better than Frasor out there you could get for 1/2 or less than Frasor will make.

And KMart why do you think they didnt give Buerhle an offer? Because he stinks? Because he is a bad guy? NO, because they dont have the salary room.

If he reverts back to how he pitched in Toronto, the White Sox will have a good reliever. He had a 5.09 ERA for the White Sox, but 2.98 for Toronto and has been a mid-3's ERA the last 2 seasons prior. I just don't know that they had the money to be spending it on him.

KMartin

Of course they aren't rebuilding. They are on the hook for $95 Mill this year without doing anything. It would be like folding after you went all in and your opponent checked.

As far as them spending money, I have made the point Joe Orr made. MOST of Jerry Partners are ok with losing money on the Sox. The make a good $$$ on the Bulls every single year and the Capital gains they will make on both if either team is ever sold is 20-30 times investments. Even with losing some money, Jerry has it in his blood to not lose money, but it is truely how he personally feels that day.

They aren't in position to rebuild, they can only transistion and try to add some younger pieces, but thats' only through trading some of their current players (Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Thornton).

Until he signs somewhere else, I still think he'll stay with the Sox.

He was overpayed at 14 million. You would be kicking yourself for giving him 16 million. Buehrle's bounce back last season was attibutable to the 6 man rotation. I think he reverts to a .500 pitcher with a 4+ ERA.

I have no problem with the Sox picking up Frasor's option and think it was a smart move. If they were going to sign a reliever to replace him they would have to commit a 3-4 year contract because that is the current trend and because of the erratic nature of relievers they tend to be bad contracts in year 3-4. Nothing wrong with slightly over paying a reliever for 1 year.

Load up that bullpen because Buerhle is walking out the door!!!!!

I'm sure fuckhead Kenny Williams has a brilliant plan to replace those 200 innings per season Buerhle provided.

And Ken Rosenthal chrips in today with this

Danks or Floyd: Take your pick
1 minute ago by KenRosenthal
For teams seeking to trade for a starting pitcher, the White Sox can offer one from Column A and one from Column B.
Lefty John Danks appeals to high-revenue teams – he will get a raise from $6 million in his final year of arbitration, then hit free agency.
Righty Gavin Floyd, on the other hand, fits nicely for low-revenue clubs – he is signed for $7 million next season with a $9.5 million club option for 2013.
The White Sox are drawing interest in both pitchers, major-league sources say. Whether they trade one, both or neither likely hinges on the trade offers they receive.
Danks will hit the open market at 27 next off-season and pitch his first free-agent season at 28. His career numbers – 54-56, 4.03 ERA – might appear modest. But he averaged nearly 195 innings over the past four seasons, and his ERA, except for the first two months of 2011, was in the 3.70 range.
Free-agent lefty C.J. Wilson, who is expected to sign for a minimum of five years and $80 million, has been a starter for only two years. Danks, if he pitches well next season, presumably would be worth much more. A big-money team such as the Yankees or Red Sox could trade for him, then try to re-sign him.
Floyd, who turns 29 on Jan. 27, is not as accomplished as Danks and lacks the left-hander’s upside, but his price is right. Even a low-revenue club such as the Pirates could afford Floyd’s salaries in 2012 and ’13, and fit him nicely into the middle of their rotation.
The White Sox are entering a transition period – their new manager, Robin Ventura, has never managed or coached at any level, and the team will give him time to grow into the job.
Right fielder Carlos Quentin, entering his free-agent year, is perhaps the most likely White Sox player to be traded, but the offers for Danks and/or Floyd might be too good to resist.
One from Column A, one from Column B.
-Ken Rosenthal

Where is the Frasor love today????????

Last month it was a good signing, now traded?? and of course the prospects will be great and the Jays fram system is loaded so guys in AA are like AAA prospects.

“I THINK I PROBABLY HAVE TO TWEAK IT A LITTLE BIT. I THINK WE WILL ALL HAVE ANSWERS TO THAT IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS AND MONTHS. IT'S STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS, BUT I...”
- GM Ken Williams, on whether he still had to take some dollars off the team's payroll before the season starts.
