They're back.

Image

They've got new fuel, new pavement, new numbers. It's all new, NEW, NEW!!!!

According to David Reuttimann, who might be the greatest driver of our generation, the two-car breakaway, a la Talladega, is now possible at Daytona.

From the looks of things, I think Trevor Bayne will surprise some people and win this thing.

Looking good!

Although I am fearful for all those participating in this years Daytona 500.
Not because of the new surface with the 3 wide racing...

Steven Wallace is gauranteed a spot in the race by getting the #77 owners
points from Penske racing. NOOOOO!!!! :x

Looking forward to the race season. I just hope someone can give JJ a run for his money.

Someone will be poised to beat him, but they will change the rules again and he will once again win.

don't know if any of you saw this. but, this is really cool. using a backhoe to hold the paving machine so it doesn't slide down the bank.

Look for restrictor plate adjustments for the Daytona 500.

Reutty and Truex hooked up on a 2-car draft and were doing 196mph.

I hope some guys get together for a large-pack draft tomorrow to see what happens.

That is pretty cool. I've been down there twice for the race. One time the guys I was with had a "secret" way out which included following a police car onto the track. We were in a dually pick-up and going around 80 mph or so on that high bank almost wasn't enough to avoid sliding right off.

One can hope.

Also, the new noses on the car, with no splitter, actually do make the cars look like regular cars, sort of. But, each manufacturer is distinct and more easily recognizable which is cool.

Did you "accidentally" take the checkered flag and head to Victory Lane, too, JORRest?

Sorry, Doc, but no. The guys I went with own a company in Moline that makes or sells or does some shit with auto parts. One of the guys and I were partners on some racehorses. Anyway, they had a "box". But it wasn't anything like I pictured. It was just a stand in the infield that had a couple rows of seats. Still, it was pretty cool. I'm not a fan of auto racing. I'm sure someone else would have appreciated it a lot more than I did. Hell, I couldn't even tell you who won, though I was there the year Earnhardt died.

I wasn't a fan of NASCAR in February 2001. But, I liked racing and I was watching the Daytona 500 that year on TV. I saw the end and the wreck and then headed out to take my wife somewhere.

I spent a good, long while in the car listening to Dan McNeil doing a national Sunday ESPN show from Bristol talking NASCAR.

Interesting Dr. Ken.
I started watching in 1998. Daytona. In 97-98 on my roommates was from Alabama. He was a huge Earnhardt fan.
Incidentally, I knew about Sean Alexander when he was a sophomore.

I like the look of the cars, but in tragic news....Redbeard is currently beardless.

Dale Jr. blew an alternator belt but didn't even notice there was fuel injection.

Redbeard also spent his offseason playing 200 hours of Battlefield 3.

Danica is 5th fastest in practice.

She sat out the first hour of practice, jumped out of the pits for 2 laps, dropped a top 5 lap, threw mic down, and headed back to the pits.

I get the distinct impression from the garage that pretty much everybody thinks Martin is done and just causing problems out there.

And to think the Daytona 500 is only six weeks away. The radios thing has been the major factor in the tandem racing being so successful. Expect this years race to be more crashy due to everyone being in a pack and fewer breakaways.

And yes, Helton mistakenly thought my fingers were boneless chicken wings at brunch. We will see how life with eight fingers works out for me.

They had a big pack going at practice but I think they are still finding ways to do that tandem nonsense.

Kurt Busch was just on and I thought he actually came off as less of a douche than normal. He almost for a moment seemed like a normal guy.
