Hate it. It cheapens the regular season. Two teams without identical records shouldn't have to have play in game.

It's going to be possible for a team who wins 95+ games to have to play a 80 something win team for a wildcard spot. In no playoff format, should the 80 something win team get that wild card spot.

Unless its the Cubs!....More teams in means more chances for a mediocre Cubs team to luck into a WS title. I am all for it. Let all 30 in.

They should get freaky with this game and make it so no pitcher can pitch more than 3 innings.

I wish "Commissioner" Selig would do the right thing and trim the schedule to accommodate the new playoff format, let alone do away with the idiotic concept of the All-Star Game winner having home field in the World Series.

I actually agree with both of these points. 162 games is seeming to be a bit excessive. How about 140?

The 95 Win team could have won their division right?

I think if you make it a 3 or 5 game series instead of a one game play in its fine.

Pre 1995 that 95+ team wouldnt have even gotten invited to the postseason

Shark, I think you might want to get the owners and players involved in that schedule trimming, as that would be a LOT of revenue lost.

A 3 game series I wouldn't have as big of an issue with.

Ya, while 162 seems like alot there is no way in hell you are going to get teams to cut 11 games worth of revenue.

That's the part of this, Hawg Ass, I wish the two sides would agree to. I'm not sure that's going to happen anytime soon, but it would be a smart idea.

I like it. Doesn't seem excessive to me. One thing that should be done is scrap the winner of the All Star game getting home field in WS. Talk about cheapening the regular season. That's it.

They could get this all done in 2 days with 1 game on day 1 and a DH on game 2 if necessary. It would make it unique, interesting and over with fast. The team with the better record hosts all 3 games.

I'll never understand the whole "This Game Counts" in regards to the MLB All-Star Game.

Should be a 3-game series, at least.

Seems backwards to play 162 to get in in the first place......
then play one game-
then best of 5-
then play best of 7.

I would say you will see the All-Star game decide home field go away at some point, just throwing this out 2013 when the Astros move to the AL Side.

With the new wild-card it could add excitement, but I also see if you had it this year, the last day of the regular season would have meant nothing, because everybody would have been in.

I just have to see what it looks like when it happens, probably just did 1 game, so to try and keep the playoffs out of November.

One can only hope that MLB doesn't end in November, Reents. I think what it means once the Astros shift from the NL to the AL for 2013 is that Interleague play won't be limited to a few weeks in June and early July like it is now.

This needs to lead to either every one or no one having a DH.

That is a sticky subject, especially with the powerful MLB Players Association. They'll contend that the DH has lengthened careers of guys such as Jim Thome, Frank Thomas, Edgar Martinez, David "Big Papi" Ortiz and other players in the American League. I don't think they'd be too thrilled to give that up.

Lots of talk about this cheapening the regular season...I would argue it makes it that more important...win your division and you get a five game series...get in as a wild card and you have to play your way in...

...not that I would have liked that very much this year. :P

Houston has always been an NL team. Bud should have moved his Brewers back to the AL.

I thought it was fine the way it was. You had enough drama at the end of the season anyway. You had a game 163 in games in 2007, 2008, and 2009, and you had 2 games (one in each league) on the last day of the 2011season that determined somebody's playoff fate. It wasn't broke, so why fix it?

They should get rid of the Wildcards all together. It's too bad that your team couldn't finish in first place, and you have no business in the playoffs. Go back to LCS' only, and realign to only 2 divisions in each league.

Should the NBA do the same thing?

This was addressed on PTI, not sure if that is why they did it this way but when Milwaukee had the Braves
originally they were a NL team and predates any team Houston had. I think Houston belongs out west.

The NBA has had the same playoff format since 1984. I would be fine if the first round went back to a 5 game series.
