Ugh.

What is the point of having a 31 year old in your farm system?

The White Sox have agreed to terms with free agent left-handed pitchers Donnie Veal and Jose Quintana

I believe Veal was former Cub prospect who had arm trouble and then a stint with the Pirates.

Donnie Veal was a Steve Stone favorite for a couple of years

Sox re-sign McPherson

By Mark Gonzales
Tribune reporter

Infielder Dallas McPherson has re-signed with the Chicago White Sox's organization, according to a tweet by his representatives, Sosnick Cobbe Sports.

McPherson batted .283 with 20 home runs and 69 RBIs in 101 games for Triple-A Charlotte. McPherson was 2-for-15 (.133) during a two-week stint with the Sox in late May. His pinch-hit single on May 17 was his first major league hit since 2008.

:|

Dallas was a top prospect in the Angel system with Casey Kotchman. These guys were #1 and #2, both big guys, were gonna be 1st and 3rd base of the future. Dallase never panned out, he is 31 now and is nothing more than a lottery ticket, I assume Kenny got a very good deal and typical Kenny fashion, maybe he catches lightning.

On the flipside, the guy will probably start the season at AAA, taking the place of a possible 1B minor leaguer that could develop. It's an issue I have with any team signing over 30 year old players for the minors.

That's not happening. Kenny and Jerry could decide they were fielding the WSCR softball team and ticket prices would still go up.

Kenny is done shopping at Bloomies for his toys. He is back to the dollar store and returns sections.

I don't think it was the worst mix when he had Ozzie getting guys fired up about being a reject, getting them to play better than they had for the previous year. Not sure you are going to get that from Robin.

Floyd is their most efficient pitcher at the price. Dumping him is the antithesis of "Moneyball". So yeah, the Sox will probably do that.

It might. Bullpens are a total crapshoot from year to year. This guy might toil in the minors all season, or be valuable setup guy. Who knows.

I don't agree with the decision to protect Deunte Heath over Tyler Kuhn. Heath has some big time strike out totals but he also has big time walk totals. He's also given up a lot of hits. He's 26 and at this point in his career I'm not sure if he's going to be able to cut down on both.

Kuhn is 25 and is coming off a break out season in double A where he hit .341 with a .401 OBP. He also had a brief appearance in triple A where he hit .297 with a .327 OBP in 23 games. Kuhn is a very good defensively and has played 2B, SS, 3B and LF in the miinors. Kuhn is a left handed hitter which also adds to his value.

Neither player is going to be a star and maybe the Sox feel they have enough utility guys with Lillibridge, Escobar and Martinez but if you're looking for the player who is the best bet to help the major league team I think Kuhn is the easy answer.

I have no problem with keeping the other players unprotected.

Sox add two pitchers to 40-man roster

By Mark Gonzales
Tribune reporter
10:43 a.m. CST, November 18, 2011

The Chicago White Sox added pitchers Deunte Heath and Charlie Leesman to their 40-man roster Friday.

Heath, 26, was 4-7 with a 4.73 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 30 games (16 starts) for Triple-A Charlotte. Heath made 16 of his last 18 appearances as a starter.

Heath was 2-2 with a 2.37 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings for Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League.

Leesman is 37-18 with a 3.63 ERA in 85 minor league games over four seasons.

Among the Sox minor league players who weren't protected were pitcher Terry Doyle, outfielders Jordan Danks, Justin Greene and Brandon Short and infielder Tyler Kuhn. They are eligible for the Rule 5 draft on Dec. 8.

The Sox's 40-man roster is at 36, allowing them to add more players via trade, free agency or the Rule 5 draft.

YES!!

Doesn't look like Jordan Danks, now 25, will make it. 2 straight mediocre years at AAA and now unprotected. Wow.

Danks was a 7th round pick. Why is it a 'wow' that he had two mediocre seasons at triple A and is now left unprotected?

Wow because he was so highly touted in the past by Sox people.

Ok I can see that because it's SO rare for a team to tout one of it's prospects.

I don't follow the Sox minor league teams all that carefully so I was surprised his stats were so mediocre. Talk about the hype not translating to even success at AAA. Of course given how shitty the Sox farm system is, I guess no one should be surprised.

That franchise is really slipping fast.

"Kenny" needs to go bye bye or get "promoted" to obscurity.

Again, he was a 7th round pick. This supposed hype had more to do with his last name than his level of talent.

"Kenny" should have moved him when he had the chance.

Some of the Sox faithful had Danks as a top prospect and on track to be the starting CF. I am pretty sure his name was Frank who had that penciled in.

I NEVER once have made a claim on any minor league player about what kind of ML player they will be.

However, I will vouch that certain players based on results, should get a real chance in the Majors, no matter what others think of them.

Bryan Lahair, as an example. 29, great stats, but still 29 and the scouts, coaches, GM never give the guy a shot. Is he going to be a great player? I don't know, but I know he deserves a real chance to be that player no matter what anyone says.

But- and the very fact you mention he is 29 twice shows you wonder the same thing- why hasn't anyone given him a shot before? In this age of information, is it really likely 30 teams all missed some great- or even good- major league player for ten years in a row?

Uh, you're going to have to do a better job of backing up your statement than that. When exactly did a mediocre 7th round pick have value? Real or perceived?
