are you sure NY would have the higher pick (right now, 8th ) if they have the same record as the other teams? Do they have a lower winning percentage against their conference?

I actually have no idea, and since I can't factor in the lottery results which will probably change the draft order, I'll just assume over these last few days of the season that NY will win all tie breakers so I'll move them down the list for any ties.

1) Memphis: 19-60
2) Boston: 23-56
3) Milwaukee: 27-52
4) Atlanta: 29-50

5) Seattle: 31-48, 0.392 (@ POR, @LAL, DAL)
6) Portland: 31-48, 0.392 (SEA, @ UTH, GS)
7) Charlotte: 32-48, 0.400 (@MIL, NY)
8 Minnesota: 32-47, 0.405 (@ GS, @ DEN, MEM)
8 Sacramento: 32-47, 0.405 (@LAC, NO, LAL)
8 NY: 32-47, 0.405 (@TOR, NJ, @ CHAR)
9 ) Philadelphia: 33-45, 0.423 (ORL, @DET, CLE, @ TOR)

Once again, we got no help, but based upon the matchups, not surprising. Charlotte, Portland, Minnesota, Sacramento all lost as well so the Knicks remained tied record-wise with Minny, and Sacramento.

Saturday NBA:

Philadelphia plays Orlando at home. Orlando is up for the 8th playoff spot on the Magic by 1.5 games so their playoff spot is clearly on the line here. A Philly win here should solidify the Knicks from dropping no lower than 10th in our worst case scenario.

Charlotte should be able to beat Milwaukee, but it's on the road, so this is far from guaranteed as well.

Seattle and Portland face off. One of those teams will equal the Knicks 32 wins after the night is over.

3) Milwaukee: 27-53

7 Sacramento: 32-47, 0.405 (@LAC, NO, LAL)
7 NY: 32-47, 0.405 (@TOR, NJ, @ CHAR)
10) Charlotte: 33-48, 0.407 (NY)
11) Philadelphia: 33-46, 0.418 (@DET, CLE, @ TOR)

Charlotte beats Milwaukee, and Portland takes care of Seattle. Philadelphia also loses, and their playoff hopes are all but done.

Sunday NBA:
Sacramento @ LAC
Philadelphis @ Detroit
NY @ Toronto
Seattle @ LAL
Minnesota @ GS

Knicks lose, Sixers and Kings win. Good day for this thread. Too bad T-Wolves lost.

As BullDog Scott m entioned, Philly and Sacramento both helped the cause yesterday. Philly should be safely ahead of NY now, and the Kings, with their veteran nucleus, haven't cashed it in just yet.

Monday NBA:
Minnesota @ Denver - Minnesota has clearly packed it in though they still could win their last game of the season vs. Memphis.
NJ @ NY - NJ is still playing for a #6 seed. NY played tough yesterday in their loss to Toronto.
Portland @ Utah
NO @ Sacramento

Nice. Narrowing in on that 50th loss.

Yep, just ask Annie! 8)

Man, The T-Wolves are making a hard charge toward the end here- they are getting totally blown out in every game. They were down by 40 against the Warriors on Sunday. I guess sitting Garnett pretty much help them there.

I agree with Hawkeye, not a real good PG draft. Can you imagine if they got Durant? They'd have an entire team of tweeners. Then they could get Don Nelson to coach them.

Obviously if they keep their pick and it's not #3, you take Oden and Durant and trade them. Thing is, what PG could they even trade for? It's not like you're going to get Nash, Kidd is getting pretty old, so is Bibby, etc. I actually think they should try and get someone like Andre Miller. I think it probably wouldn't cost them that much, they could probably get him without giving up Oden or Durant. They clearly need someone who can distribute, they already have a team full of shooters.

Trade Oden or Durant? Wow, I have never seen that one.

That has to be one of the dumbest organizations in all of sports. Seriously, there is no way you can justify re-signing Isaiah.

Well, I was pretty much thinking out loud, and decided it wasn't worth it. I was just saying PG is their (Atlanta) obvious need, if they could trade either one for a top tier PG, I'd think that was a good move. Problem is there really aren't that many logical trade situations.

Then again, if they kept either one they could maybe trade one of their other SF/PF/C's (Sheldon Williams maybe) for a 2nd/3rd tier PG. I like Salim Stoudemire but he's much better coming off the bench.

Also, I have no idea why they gave up their 2nd round pick for Anthony Johnson. He's a decent role player on a contending team, not someone who was going to push the Hawks into playoff contention or be that missing piece.

In Baku's theory, you have to be looking for someone at the beginning of a long career. You'd be talking about a Deron Williams or Chris Paul. I don't see either of those two being available, but with a player like Oden or Durant being dangled, I'm sure it's possible. Utah might be looking for a big man to compliment Okur or waiting to see if AK-47 can return to normal. As for NO, I don't see it happening.

So do you think that would be a good idea? Or are you totally sold on Oden and Durant being HoF'ers? For some reason I just have an iffy feeling about Oden. Durant, I'm pretty sold on.

But re-thinking my theory, I think someone like Andre Miller, someone maybe a bit older but who is a pass-first PG would be attainable at a much more reasonable rate and would work.

Baku - I don't disagree with your thoughts. I think Oden is more a question mark than Durant. Durant reminds me of a young KG. he can shoot, take people off the dribble and will be a bear to guard for most 3's in the league. He needs to fill out to take NBA'ers on the block, but has a decent post up game too.

As for Oden, he seems to have a good foundation and will be able to contribute immediately on the defensive end of the floor. He's big for the college game, but in the pros, he'll be an average sized center. He can run the floor for a big man and this will help get him some easy buckets. He could be the next Shaq or the next 'Theo Ratliff'. Both will keep you in the league a long time but one is worth a #1 pick and the other is not.

Tuesday NBA - not much of any relevence happening tonight:
Cleveland at Philly - It appears to be safe to root for Philly now to win, and lock up the #2 seed for the Bulls

I know you are speaking in terms of lottery standings, but I would disagree- Mavs at Warriors and Clips at Suns.

Could lock up the 1st playoff berth for the Warriors since Sir Charles torched them back in 93-94. I am a big Warriors fan so I am stoked.

I know the consensus would be a ass-kicking at the hands of Dallas in round 1, but I think it would be a fun series. I think GS matches up well with Dallas, far better than Spurs or Suns. They have fared well against them in the regular season, ended one of their long streaks awhile ago.

I would take Durant #1. I think Oden will probably be an amazing player if paired with another top 15 player. He will never be the kind of player that will score 20 in the fourth quarter.

The intriguing thing about Oden is the fact that he seemed to coast through much of the season. I think he was very concerned about his wrist. I watched a lot of OSU games this season and he did amazing things from time to time. The Florida game was the first game I saw him go all out.

This makes Oden a great unknown. I don't think he was anywhere close to his potential in college. At worst, Oden will be a dominating defensive player and a great rebounder. At best, he will have an impact on the whole game. Pair him with a guard who can score and you will be a great team.

I think both these guys are can't-miss, for the reasons you state above. I'd pick one or the other based on my team's needs. If the Bulls miraculously managed to get the first pick, I'd hope they went with Oden.

Oden isn't as explosive as Durant, that's the main difference. It's also why Durant is the sexier pick between the two.

Can't go wrong with either... Oden has terrific fundamentals and ability for his young age (although he looks 50). I think he is a cross between Robert Parish/Brad Daugherty.

I'm also rooting for GS to win tonight, and they are a 6.5 point favorite. Dallas doesn't plan to use their regular lineup until their last game, according to Avery Johnson so this could be a GS 120-105 type game.

All the Oden comparisons have missed the one that I thought was most obvious, Patrick Ewing.

A full year of conditioning and weightlifting will make all of these doubts about Oden look insane.
