Or Rosenbloom? This morning within ten minutes of each other, we got these gems from Rosie on 1000 and Fred on 670 regarding Rio DeJaneiro being Chicago's principal competitoin for the Olympics.

Rosie said, "If they have the Olympics in Rio, they will have to hold them in December because their seasons are upside down and when it is summer here, it is winter there."

Deciding I should go somewhere else for my morning lesson on world geography, I changed to the Score and heard Fred with this jewel: "If they have the Olympics in Rio, they will have to hold the marathon at night because it will be too hot in July to have it during the day."

I don't expect our sports guys to be meteorologists or geography experts, but is it too much to expect them to be smarter than a fifth grader? I suspect most fifth graders know that Rio is a tropical climate year-round. Its latitude is 23 degrees south of the equator...roughly the same distance from the equator as Key West is north of the equator.

Rosie and Fred, the average high and low temperatures in July in Rio are 75 and 63. The average high temperatures every month of the year are in the 70s and low 80s. I think the weather will be fine.

Collectively they are not smarter than a fifth grader.

At least Rosie knew it was winter then.

I seem to remember a Summer Olympics in Australia. I wonder how that was possible.

The Olympics in Australia were in Sydney in September-October, which was their spring. More importantly, Sydney is a coastal city with a temperate climate at 33 degrees Lat. Think San Diego.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that it was cold in Rio. Does Rosie think that the commitee would put up a city as a candidate that has a cold winter climate? Is he that stupid?

The Olympics date arrives and all of a sudden it's snowing and the comitte says "Shit, I didn't know it was cold and snowy here. What the hell are we gonna do?"
