I got each kid a video game. Let me know if any of you like these:

Son - Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (got a 10 on IGN)
Daughter 1 - Just Dance 3 (she had a blast with JD2)
Daughter 2 - Disney Universe (I'm told its a lego game without the legos)
Daughter 3 - LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7

I think they just meant that it plays like a lego game, so if you played a lego game then you would generally appreciate the controls. This one is for my 5 year old, so it needs to be as simple as possible.

I think this will be a great haul for the kids. They've never got this many games before, so they are gonna freak. We actually don't let them game that much (I know, I'm a hypocrite), but I figure the winter is a time when we'll overlook some of this.

My only problem with Legend of Zelda Skyward sword is that I think there is still a fair amount of reading. And my son is just 7, so he is going to struggle a bit. But I'm hoping he'll enjoy it. We don't really let him play fighting games, so he will be stoked to have Lynk with a sword dispatching foolz.

I can't remember if I asked this...Are either of the Wipeout games good or is one better than the other? My son loves that show.

The other thing that came up a lot was the first one was fun but had bad controls, the second was not as much fun but the control was better. Not sure what to do.

We have party8. Would a 7 year old be able to get through zelda?

I'm taking a risk... it says 10 and up. He's reading a bit now, so I'm optimistic he'll be able to figure it out. Perhaps its something we can play together, so maybe I can help him along. The main reason I got it was that it got such amazing reviews. Comments like "The Best Wii Game" and "Best Zelda Game".

Disney Universe I got because it looks simple and, well, it's Disney.

LEGO Harry Potter 5-7, I got because the three older kids LOVE Harry Potter (although we won't let them see the last movie) and we've had very positive experiences with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones LEGO games.

Just Dance 3 was a no brainer. The whole family gets a kick out of that.

we play party together. Mostly video games for our family are hey kids play this for an hour and don't fight while mom tries to get stuff done. He can read pretty well but I don't want the game play to be frustrating to the point where he calls me every few minutes to say mom can you pass this level for me? Frustrating games are bad and the kid gets frustrated pretty easily. Good to know let me know how it works out.

No At 5-6 they begin to read short things, phrases, signs and stuff like that. The more advanced ones at 6-7 are just getting the hang of chapter books but still need help.

Depends on what it was. If it was her favorite book then she probably knows it pretty fluidly. If it was at a lower level then what she is capable of then that will be a pretty quick read too. My son is a pretty good reader but he likes it a lot. Friends of his struggle a little but they don't have the interest.

Probably not the best idea to let a minor read your posts to you.

My kid just turned 7. He's considered pretty good for his class, but he's not at the level where he can read very quickly. To be honest, maybe the video games can actually help him enjoy reading. We actually downloaded some kid-safe comics and read those on the ipad. You have no idea how hard it is to find kid-appropriate comic books. Everything is geared to 20-30 year olds.

Skyward Sword is so fucking awesome! It's definietly a top 5 Zelda game, as well as top 5 wii game. The motion controls are pretty simple, only flying takes some getting used to. A se7en Year Old should be able to handle it like a champ.
