> BRING BACK NORTH BRING BACK NORTH BRING BACK NORTH BRING BACK NORTH

Oh, dude. Please, no. The last time (IMO) North was listenable was the "Wise Guys" afternoon show with Buffone. The morning show morphed from "bad" to "utterly unlistenable".

You bring him back, you get the same. Whatever Jiggetts could do to balance him wasn't working in 'Monsters' and 'Monsters & Money'

North has, at best, morphed into someone best contained within a segment. Like Frank Caliendo or Jimmy Kimmel before that. Just an utter cartoon character.

thats fine. let him be the score mascot. he is harmless enough to be the face of the score, and people like dan bitchstein can make fun of him and mike can make dan cry.

It's a good thing, for these guys and others in this business, that you find their jobs so difficult (and/or find them uniquely qualified to do them).

On the whole I like Mully.

[b]The good: [\b]The ability to move a thought/discussion from point "A" to point "B" while recognizing the necessary pace for this to transpire over a 4 hour show.

The ability to connect with "Everyman" while still flaunting some press access.

Showing patience with callers.

The ability to prevent Brian Hanley from sounding like a rhetorical dumbass.

[b]The bad:[\b] The "shouting" voice.

Applying Mike Murphy-like naivety with 15+ years of press credentials.

Taking credit for being smarter than athletes and then complaining that they aren't that smart.

Trashing coaches for poor answers to borderline idiotic questions.

Giving Hanley a too frequent pass on his Murphy-like idiocy.

[b]All in all[\b] Mulligan helps make a great start to the Score sports day. Enough substance to get past the next show's redundant laps in the shallow pool of the superficial while allowing B&B the opportunity to be the near opposite while continuing with what has already been introduced by M&H.

Tom Shaer couldn't be bothered with facts and wanted more to be a personality. Mike Murphy is best described as a lovable hack, but playing sports dumb grows old over time. Mike North had the world in his hands but jerked it away. So in a sense, by default, I like M&H but they too could screw up this good thing but don't. At some point in the day it should be more about sports than someone's pseudo life or personality.

he's gotten better with his stutterring uh's lately, i've noticed, but i only get to listen to one segment on the way to work. his fake laugh is annoying but other than that, i don't mind him.

and he is a nice guy in person. maybe it's an act, but eh...

You know what I hate that these two (especially Mully) says?

Right before they end an interview, they said "On the way out....."

You're spot on, spmack.

Used to love listening to Mully when he would host with Bernsy and when he used to host on Saturday mornings, which didn't happen often. Listened to Mully and Hanley from day 1. Very bummed that he won't be writing Bears anymore. He was quick to stick the blade in when necessary. Hopefully he can land a John Mullin-type online gig .

Reason and Don Tiny also on board. That's solid.

Herb Lawrence

What I'm saying, which some of u are not getting, is that you ate giving Ryan Braun a pass when u didn't give others one. I wonder why

Wow, what a terrible take.

Everyone I know reacted with laughter and glee when they heard about Braun.

I honestly thought it was going to be something about him being judged harshly because he's jewish.

C'mon Herb...that's awful.

Actually not sure Herb has ever said anything worth while. Ask Herb would be terrible without Laurence...

That is undoubtedly true.

Laurence could make an "Ask Dustin" segment into Peabody Award radio.

Mr Goff jumped on this race card as well yesterday on Twitter.

And like some others HERE, if you have something to say, say it, don't Steve Stone it. The only person you impress then is yourself.

I don't really think the anger over steroids was really ever directed specifically at players anyway. Yeah, people think what Bonds and McGwire did was phony, but it was more about being angry at MLB for allowing the situation to occur. Now that MLB isn't turning a blind eye and actually has a testing program that catches an MVP, I think fans simply have a belief that the game is relatively clean- or at least that MLB is doing whatever it can to make it that way.

You can say what you want about the other sports and their "rigorous testing", if Aaron Rodgers or Derrick Rose came up with a positive, that shit would be swept under the rug in a second. But nobody really cares about the rampant juicing in those two sports. Anthony Mason and Scottie Pippen weren't breaking any records anyone cared about and anyone with a brain knows you can't play in the NFL unless you're a kicker (maybe) without gassing up.

Steve Stone is not an asshole, he is just not good.

1. He rarely speaks now
2. He can't watch most of the other games, so his opinions are based on Sportsceter highlights
3. He is still focused on the Cubs, he always has Cub info, but when asked Sox info "I don't know anymore than you"

RPB, expect much more from you, direct the dislike to what it is.

This seems to be one of your main criticisms of Stone, as if he watched all the night games religiously when he was the Cubs man and now he can't because he's sitting next to Hawk while they're being played. I don't know what the guy watches or what he ever watched, but I'm sure he has access to a DVR.

What about you, Bryan? Every Cub fan I know would go on and on about how Stone was the "best in the business", "knew the game better than anyone", would "make a great GM someday" when he was in the Cubs booth. As soon as he moved across town he apparently became a blithering idiot.

bigfan and I are in agreement that Stone is a goof. I just have trouble believing he always felt that way.

I think Stone is very smart for a baseball guy (17 college degrees in MLB as of 2006) and that made him sound even smarter than he was.

His delivery always teetered between arrogant and confident.

I think he was much better than most other analysts at the time. He probably still is. With Hawk its a little bit of a different dynamic. Harry and Chip both defferred to Stone on opinions. Hawk doesnt.

I do think Stone got pissed at the Cubs for how they treated him at the end and it skews his thoughts on both Chicago teams. I have no interest in his thoughts on Chicago teams because of that.

Also, his strength was more the in-game variety. I never thought of him as a good analyst of the league as a whole (free agents, who would win WS etc)
