Ok folks, let's look at this.

I don't even remember if they officially matched Deandre, but I'm sure they did/coming now that they moved Kaman.
They also gave up Aminu who I believe was a #7 pick overall last year.
Eric Gordon who by almost all accounts is a rising star.
And the Minny pick which could very well end up the #1 overall pick in next year's exceptionally stong draft class.

For ONE year of Chris Paul right?

Or is this a sign and trade?

Lakers are pissed. While the players were older they were proven and better at this point. There is a lot more risk to this trade. I guess young/unknown/hurt is what Stern wanted. The Rockets offered 2 draft picks and it's possible they could be better than the Wolves pick. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lawsuit.

Pretty sure this is a done deal BC. The league itself ran this one. They pushed aside Dell Demps and David Stern kicked the crap out of Donald Sterling from where I'm sitting.

No they didn't. They get to keep Bledsoe and the Wolves won't be as bad as people think. They got rid of an injury prone Caveman too. I was high on Jordan a few years ago if you recall so of course I think he'll be an improvement.

I thought the first trade should've gone through without question.

But looking back, I still wonder if Stern did the Lakers a favor. They were one, basically unavoidable injury to Andrew Bynum, away form being a team of Kobe, CP3, and Metta World Peace.

I agree but I think they were banking on getting Howard too. I think the Lakers are a better team with Bynum and Gasol than with Howard and I believe picking up a guard like Billups will improve them more in the short run (isn't that all that matters with an aging Bryant) than getting rid of Gasol to get Paul would. Along with Bynum getting injured there was the potential of Paul and Bryant being out with knee injuries. That would instantly make the Lakers Lottery bound.

It's risky though Nas. Paul opted in for one more year. So the Clips have two years to convince him to stay.......when all along places like New York, LA, Orl, NJ have been the destinations CP3 really wanted to land at. Does he stay after those 2 years?

In comparison, you would think that Eric Gordon has at least 10 years more of quality basketbally in him.
Aminu is a complete unknown for the most part. He showed flashes last year. His ceiling is hard to gauge. But he too, should have at least 10 years of some kind of basketball to offer.
And then there's that #1 pick from many. Who knows how that turns out. But whoever it is, you gotta imagine, has like 10-15 years of quality ball coming up.
Kaman they should just turn around and deal for something or another. So let's give Kaman another 5 years of decent ball.

So the Clippers have given up, conservatively, 35 years of anywhere from good to exceptional ball, for 2 years of Chris Paul.

Clippers had no use for Caveman and sold high on everything else. It was a great move. Paul is still young and is in one of the cities he wanted to be in. He'll resign because the Clippers are going to be the best team in LA in 3 years. Gordon was the best player in the deal and he'll never be anywhere near as good as Paul.

I disagree. Eric Gordon is already as good as Odom or Martin and will get better. Aminu is gonna be a good starter. Minnesota's pick will be top 5. This was better for NO.

FF what do you think the Rockets draft picks will be? They were offering up two 1st round lottery picks. I think the Wolves will finish about 9th or 10th in the West which will diminish the value of that pick. While Gordon has the potential to be really good he isn't currently better than the 3 players the Hornets would have gotten and no one else will ever be better than them. The original trade had far less risk. Getting Bledsoe should have been a priority for the Hornets.

I think the Rockets pick will be around 10-12. I'm pretty sure the Wolves will be top 5. I think Gordon is already as good or better than the three players they wouldve gotten and he's only 22. Plus the three guys they would've gotten have peaked as players, and not All-Dtar caliber players either. Those type of guys help contenders, they hinder rebuilding teams. Gordon, Minny's 1, and Aminu are great assets to rebuild around.

I guess so KS. Less cost too but they're going to be awful. They would have at least made the playoffs with the other guys. NBA will lose about $100M on the sale of the Hornets. Probably a good buy for a smart investor. $200M or less for a franchise isn't bad.

Do the Hornets have their pick for 2012? If so they can have a quick rebuild like Portland or OKC with Gordon, Aminu, and two top 5 picks to build around.

I believe so. Gordon is the only known though. New owner would still have a lot of risk. Of course with risk the reward is usually higher than the alternative. At the right price it could be worth it. It's also possible they become Clippers lite.

The Clips were on the right path to contending, if Sterling didn't get in the way. I'd rather have the above four assets to build around then what teams like the Bobcats and Pacers have.

Even if you're right FF it's still 1 player to 3 and 2 top 10 picks to 1 top 5 pick. I think Odom and Scola are all star caliber and Martin was borderline.

KS Okafor will be a nice addition to a championship caliber team.

Pacers should have beaten the Bulls and the Bobcats gutted their teams and got nothing in return.

There was never any threat of the Pacers winning that series. Their ceiling is the Kirk Hinrich led 2005ish Bulls. They need to bottom out to get a star.

To be clear, the Clippers can waive Chauncey Billups and make him a free agent. They can't trade him.

Does he stay and try to play with Paul or does he try and force a buyout now and end up with the heat?

I agree. The Clips overpaid and if they only get 2 years out of Paul, they're fucked. Plus Paul has been injury prone. No way Minn finishes 7-8 in the West. Easily a Top 7 pick. Clips panicked when the Lakers got involved.

So if the Clippers are snake bitten as some seem to think, CP3 will get an injury that takes a year and a half to heal, just in time for him to come back and do a free agent audition

I heard Clippers' analyst Don MacLean from FOX Sports' Prime Ticket on "The Dan Patrick Show" this morning discuss this deal from L.A.'s end. He thinks this is a "Top 4 team" in the West and thinks they may not be done dealing as a result of the Chris Paul trade with the Hornets.

From a business end, would you believe the Clippers have sold out their home games at STAPLES Center as a result of the Paul trade?
