The biggest fallacy in this whole thing is that anything about Tim Tebow is a media creation. An SEC fan like you should know that even in high school it's been a big story. That kind of stuff doesn't come from the media. It came from Tim Tebow and his family that used his religion to "spread the word" and also make tons of money off of it. Tim Tebow never found a microphone that wasn't the perfect place to make sure everyone knew how religious he was.

I think Tebow is conveniently genuine. There is no question that he considers his religion a very important part of his life but also he knows, and has known since he was in high school, that there are benefits to constantly bringing it up.

The media may have taken a big interest now but this has been a targeted PR campaign for a long time. The media has now decided to ride the wave.

Of course Berns may be playing possum waiting for a big push come playoff time.

Man, once they make the playoffs, youre gonna see some serious shit (88mph of hype)

Maybe.

He might be slow-playing it, waiting for his chance to go all in.

The worst part about the Bears losing is that we still have to deal with this shit. I had pretty much realized that they were done for IF (and it was a big if) they made the playoffs.

But the Bears still had the chance to do 2 things this season that would at least make it somewhat enjoyable for a short time. That was beat Tim Tebow and ruin the Packers perfect season. Obviously they had the better chance to do the former even before the game began. But no. Instead the prevent defense gives up a late score and Marion Barer had his head up his ass for the second straight game.

So we're left with being Tebowed with ESPN and all. Its quite sickening actually.

ESPN had a series about him in high school, can't remember if it was a series or just a OTL doc but I remember watching it a few times.

Good point, though I don't know if you were agreeing or disagreeing with me.

ESPN once had a high school sports series called "Scholastic Sports America" which was hosted by Chris Fowler, I think in the early '90s, long before he, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Tom Rinaldi & Erin Andrews have done "College GameDay".

ESPN has also done a series called "Year of the Quarterback", and Tim Tebow was once of the subjects.

I mainly use your posts as instruments to make my own points/recollections. Otherwise, I don't really pay attention to them....

ok but the media still is the one broadcasting it. anybody can have an interest in promoting themselves but it's not like the tebow family was making youtube videos and doing whatever they could to get in front of a mic. from what it seems, the mics were put into their faces because tebow was such a special player...but that was in high school and college.

essentially in the NFL he is still an intriguing player but the way he's being promoted you'd think he already has made the hall of fame. and yeah, ESPN seems to be the driving force behind all of it, going back to his HS days.

also, for the record, i am an LSU fan; that doesn't mean i root for the entire SEC. while i recognize that it is the strongest conference in college football, i'm not going to make arguments for it when it's in a down year, nor root for another SEC team in some other match up "because it's the SEC".

So. Here is the recipe:

1. #1 Rushing Offense in the League with a QB who is arguably your best RB at the moment (mind you this team is missing their starting RB and for much of this run, was missing their #2 RB, as well)
2. Dominating Time of Possession
3. Have a very high 3rd down conversion percentage
4. DON'T TURN THE BALL OVER
5. Have a guy who is turning into one of the most clutch QB's in the NFL in just his first season as a starter, allowing the team to win close games (which they have a lot of as a run first/control clock style football team

What is so hard to figure out here? And why does this not equate to an outstanding football player? Because he doesn't stand in the pocket and fit your conventional wisdom of what a QB can do? How'd that work out for them when Orton was in the game?

I'll answer that question. It worked out GREAT for Orton... in his first 6 games with Denver. At which time, people made the EXACT same arguments you're making now. What short memories people have. The very same QB that was the focus of this same argument, is the QB that people are now using as the counter-argument.

When Tebow is still doing this years from now, we'll talk again.

It's getting more and more difficult to not like the football player Tim Tebow. You can keep the rest of it.

Agreed.

I just wish ESPN and the media wouldn't fawn over him. Makes me want to see him decapitated.

Trent Dilfer last night apparently praised Tebow's reads and accuracy.

He completed 50% of his passes.

Gotta stick to the script.

That's what people said about Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton.

So Tim Tebow is Fran Tarkenton.

Last week he was Bert Favre.

Can't wait to see who he is after next week's Buffalo game.

I think he's a Peyton Hillis version of what Falcons Mike Vick was.

Good runner, bout 50% completion pct, wins games with defense and running.

Probably not. But Tarkenton was viewed as an oddity in his time with all that running. He had low completion percentages his first couple years too. I certainly wouldn't bet on Tebow becoming the kind of passer Tarkenton was, but I don't see why Tebow shouldn't get a chance to develop like every other first round quarterback.

With more games on tape, defenses next year will know what to expect with Tebow. The Bears and Pats have provided that template so far for the rest of this season. If anything unless Tebow can get a lot better throwing the ball in the pocket, that offense will be worse next year. Defenses are going to catch up to it even more than they already have.
