The 49ers style of play is conducive to winning in shitty January weather while he Saints is not. The Saints can probably beat the 49ers with ease in the dome though. This is why I would prefer the 49ers lose tonight and take the 3rd seed.

Even in shitty weather I'd take the saints over the 9ers. I'd rather see them try to win two road games against SF and GB and the extra WC game than get a home game and bye week.

This happened when I was at a D-backs vs Padres game at Qualcom. They postponed it. I think Randy Johnson started it the next day from the 2nd inning and he set the record for strikeouts in a game for a relief pitcher.

How about the Niners Defense not allowing a rushing TD yet this year? Not sure an NFL team has ever gone an entire season without giving up a rushing TD.

ESPN sure loves to bring up 1989 anytime something happens in San Fran.

That was some bad football from the Steelers.
Bad to drive twice and turnover.
Bad, like hilarious bad, clock management at the end of the half.

Bad.

i agree with UMN. they don't play tight gritty defense, and you need that in shitty january weather. they play "speed defense" and in the dome, that works...but in cold weather, on a slower surface, not so much. and they don't run the ball consistently enough to be able to win that way either.

if the saints have to go to san fran, i think their season ends. they match up better against green bay who plays with a similar style on both sides of the ball.

From my new NFL Rules handbook:
Quote:
Item 1: Contact with Receiver. It is interference if a player of the kicking team contacts the receiver, or
causes a passive player of either team to contact the receiver, before or simultaneous to his touching
the ball.

You really ought to spend more time hoping that Dr. Feelgood will be allowed in the Packers' locker room to work on the O linemen. ;)

(Edit:.....allowed again ;) )

This has been a pretty entertaining game. A nice defensive game, yes?
Fuckin cameraman got faked out of his boxers on that TD pass.

8) Awesome stand by San Fran there to close out the 3rd quarter.

Ideally they will shore that up. I still like GB's chances regardless, but the 2nd best team in the conference getting knocked out without facing them would only improve those chances.

Bears should have hired Jimmy Harbaugh when they had the chance. What he has done with the same lousy talent that Mike Nolan & Mike Singletary had is remarkable.

You really must have been a Cleveland Browns fan in the '80s. Rutigliano vs. Schottenheimer....discuss (as if anyone gives a damn about '80s Browns or '10s Niners)

Thanks Rapelisburger for your 4 turnovers tonight. With them, you cost me a chance at my league title next week, as the guy I was facing had the Niners D. The last pick was just stupid

No. Ruttigliano & Shottenheimer were both bad.
Harbaugh will be regarded as one of the best coaches in the NFL in 3-5 years.

The more I watched Ben Roethlisberger, the more I thought he should've sat this one out, regardless of the team's playoff standing last night. There's no question the Steelers' QB is a tough S.O.B., but I could tell right away that something wasn't right with his ankle. He looked old & slow out there and the more he played, the more pain he seemed to be in. Given how tough the 49ers' defense was out there, I felt head coach Mike Tomlin should've given Big Ben the hook and the Steelers' offense should've been run by veteran QB Charlie Batch.

As for the 49ers, while their defense is as good as advertised, I'm still not sold one bit on 49ers' QB Alex Smith, especially if the Niners are forced to play a playoff game or two on the road. Much like their Bay Area counterparts, the Raiders, when they're in the Red Zone, field goals aren't always good enough. Touchdowns are what that offense needs moving forward if they are to be taken seriously as a threat to the Packers in the NFC come January.

No one is "sold" on Alex Smith, including Jim Harbaugh. But Harbaugh has been able to win & be successful with Smith, which no other 49ER head football coach has been able to do.
Just imagine how good this team would be with a good QB.

The 49ers should make a Godfather offer for Payton Manning after the season. I'd bet that if he can give them three All-Pro years they would win a Super Bowl. And I'm assuming the pricetag would be significantly lower than trading for Luck.

Mannings football career might just be over. If not, yea, he would be good for the Niners as long as Harbaugh is ok with letting Manning call the plays in the no huddle offense.

He'd be an idiot to not be ok with it.
