Nice! Takes a little of the sting out of losing Buehrle.

As for KW's "rebuilding,'' I think the plan this winter is just make it up as they go along.

I am glad to have Danks back as he has been one of my favorite guys the last couple years and I fully expect him to have a nice bounce back year.

But this just seems real confusing. If you are going to extend Danks then why trade your closer? Why say this is the start of a rebuild?

Danks is one of the pieces that would probably bring in a nice return to help with a rebuild.

Oh well, KW is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

Because he didn't have the right mental make-up to be a top closer. He came unglued far too easily.

ok maybe so, guess time will tell on that one.

But what about saying this is the start of a rebuild?

Danks is young enough to still be good at the end of even a 5 year rebuild and im sure they are hoping its a lot quicker than that.

It's a solid signing.

Danks is the New Buehrle

But how are you going to do a 5 yr rebuild if you are unwilling to trade the pieces desired by other teams?

Sox don't have many of those. If they refuse to trade them, there will be no rebuild and the Sox at the end of this 5 yr deal will be even worse off

I think they're going to be moving some guys. I'll be shocked if Quentin starts the season with the team. There's a lot of starting pitching out there. But there are even more teams that need it. The Yankees are trying to act as if they aren't desperate. All you have to do is read the posts of stoneroses and you know how desperate they are. I guess we'd believe that Danks is one guy that is now off the market. Teams will start moving pitchers soon. Beane is going to get somebody to overpay for Gio. Then Floyd may go.

When is the can't miss Jordan Danks going to make his debut? ....or will he be traded so he doesn't block the path of 5 Tool Kenneth Williams from his rightful place in the big league outfield.

He will get spot on the "Whatever" of champions at The Cell right next to Joe Borchard, Scott Ruffcorn, John Rousche, Jeremy Reed and Warren Newsome.

I hope Danks didn't get a "no trade clause". He's still 5 or 6 years away to where he's a 5 and 10 guy and it's automatic. He can still be traded at the deadline if we suck. Plus him being signed will make him more appealing to some teams. You might get more in return.

Oh I think this team is gonna suck plenty of rock hard dong next year.

I would guess they view Danks as more valuable to the Sox than the return. Perhaps they shopped Danks and got way less than they wanted.

As solid as he is, Im not sure he would fetch multiple good or one super prospect.

Trade Quentin, draft well, still able to trade Danks by the deadline next year.

Its such a reasonable amount too.

I mean Kenny was active around the winter meetings with the Santos trade. Danks was in rumors. Obviously they didnt love what was being offered.

Im so tired of having to defend Kenny

The right move probably would have been to trade Danks at the deadline last year. But the Sox were still pretending they could win. And I have to believe that their decisions are informed at least in part by the severely negative fan reaction to the "White Flag" trade.

Good to see that Danny Darwin is still affecting policy on the South Side

Well, that's what baseball has become. It was one thing for a team- especially a team in a major market- to rebuild the entire big league club all at once when most of its business was walk-up sales on nice summer nights and you could buy a ticket for a cheap as a couple bucks. But season ticket sales are so important and these teams have gotten themselves into a position where they have to draw 2 million plus just to break even.

The same thing goes for the Cubs. It's easy for people like danny bernstein who never go to games (and if they do are on a freebie) to sit on the radio and spout stupid shit about how this guy or that guy doesn't get you closer to a championship so you might as well move him and see what the young guy can do. But when I'm shelling out thirty grand for four seats in November you're fucking right I ain't gonna be happy about coming to watch Andrew Cashner be my best pitcher and Tyler Colvin play the outfield everyday, regardless of how G.M. bernstein thinks paying to watch those turds will pave the way for a World Series title at some unspecified future date.

I think mentally is was and will be fine. When he didn't have that sinker working, guys would sit on his fastball. Can't do that in the bigleagues, especially in the 8th and 9th inning.

I'm not sure why people don't understand this signing.

It gets a 26 year old left handed SP under control for 5 years at a decent price. That would seem to increase his value in a trade.

I don't know why people would think this affects rebuilding. The contract doesn't negatively impact his tradability. It's a market contract that provides five years of control instead of the previous one year of control they would have been trading. The Sox will spend less on their rotation than last year.

I am much happier they have Danks at $13 million per year than Buehrle at $15 million (or whatever amount he signed for).

Danks is only going to make around $8M this year so it won't affect the retooling. I still think Quentin and Thornton will be moved. I'd like to see them go into the season with Gavin and if they are out of it at the deadline they can trade him then.
