I would not place myself as a tamale expert as I never really ate them before, always went Burrito or Taco if in a place that had all three.

Recently been buying the Frozen Trader Joes Tamales. Cheese, Chicken or Beef. Cheese has some jalapenos.

Has become a new fave of mine. 2 mins , in the husk, in the M wave, rolls out of the corn husk ready to eat!

Always cooked through, no still cold section.

Highly suggest you grab a few for the quick good eating.

There's a Trader Joes right down the street from (Gotta love the Oak Park area...) I will try this soon.

The only "decent" frozen tamales I've ever had are the same ones that Portillo's serves...I forget the brand but they come in those individually wrapped 10 packs...white wrapping.

But even then...they aren't real tamales.

Tacos Erendira on Halsted is where you gotta go for some legit tamales. Thats my hood.

Yeah I buy the frozen wrapped up ones from Costco. Very nice indeed.

They are pretty easy to make and freeze but Trader Joe's stuff is usually good so I'll give these a try. Thanks!

Major props for the Tacos Erendira mention, one of my absolute favorites going on 25 years now.

Yes,Portillos has great tamales, just like the rest of the food. There beef sandwich is great and so are the hot dogs. That is about all I ever ordered from there.

Just don't get hit by a car when you're coming out of there.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell she's talking about. They aren't easy to make by any means.

Not quite 10 hours usually. Sometimes I break up the process and do the meat one day and the filling/tamale part the next or cheat with chicken. A lot of it is cooking time, the meat takes time and I steam the tamales for about 2 hours. I don't really feel like it's labor intensive unless you put a lot into the filling.

The best thing about Trader Joes is that if something sucks, they will refund you no questions asked. I've purchased things before to taste and not liked them - just tell em at the register and they give you the money back.

Not anything to do with Trader Joes....but if you work downtown there is a food truck called the tamale spaceship where the dudes working it are in like full luchador masks and their tamales are pretty good.

I'm sure they follow proper food safety protocol as well...

Yes! Discovered this the other day.

My go to place is a little store in East Chicago, I'm not even sure what it is called. They sell barbacoa too... delicious.
