FACT Aaron Rowand has a World Series ring. FACT Reed Mantle does not.

Ergo ipso facto, don't disparage Aaron Rowand.

Whoa. Failed prospect? I hope Danks eats himself into a Sabathia-Like form. Have fun with the signing jerk!

Now he is GREAT. So you are saying that the Cubs developed a GREAT reliever?

Maybe this is just part of Theos next big move. Maybe he is going to package Wood with other players to get a another starter?

Marshall and Danks deals are very similar. 2012 was the end of the contracts for both. Both to be Free agents.

The Sox shopped Danks all over and in the end, they needed a starting pitcher, didnt feel like they got what he was worth and thus resigned him. It's a good move, but I really dont think it took a ton of brainpower..

The Cubs are going to lose Marshall, because they are not going to pay him $20-$30 mill, next year to be a primary setup guy on a 3-4 year deal.

So they moved him for a guy who had a great rookie year when he was 23, and had a bad sophomore outing.

Once again, if the Sox make this move, "Oohh Coop can fix him, look at his rookie numbers"

1 good year at 23, 1 bad year at 24, don't think it makes him a FAILED prospect...as Mr Sox Side baseball has deemed him.

Kenny comes out and says Danks is 26, we expect him to be the foundation of our staff for the next 5 years.

This would be the Sox attempt to build their new Buerhle.

Oh, I forgot, the Sox GM doesn't talk to the fans on radio, TV or media except when he has someone to denograte, an Ozzie shot to respond to, or telling the fans how piss poor they are.

Would it kill the guy to do 10 minutes with Rongey promoting his own team? Maybe sell some tickets and hope?

It sounds like a good signing. $13 mil/yr for a middle rotation starter sound a little high but otherwise not a bad signing.

You really think KW going on the radio with Rongey is going to sell tickets?

Well Frank, Maybe back in 2008 after the Blue Jays let him go, someone told me they wanted him on the Sox in the words of "We tried to get him, but he wasn't interested", and that someone was your Asst GM, is that good enough for you???

I'd rather have a KW quietly fucking up a team than Hendry doing it with spotlights, amplifiers and fanfare.

Yes, I think he is going to sell THE KENNY PLAN.

That is where you pay 50% of the face value of the tickets because you expect the Sox to give you a home team discount, just like they ask players to do.

No, I dont expect kenny to be actually giving out the 1-800 #, but when you make a signing like this, or st some point during your hot stove time and your are DESPERATE to sell tickets, maybe you create some buzz buy talking about what you plan to do.

It's the reason the NFL makes Lovie, Jay, #54, all talk to the media, they know it helps the product.

Best part of this thread is all the Sox fans assuming I think it is a dumb idea.

I think this was the correct move. However, I don't think it was a very complicated move. $13 mill a year might be a little high, after this season last year, but every signing is to some degree a risk.

This team was in for $100 mill before they resigned anyone, the best they hope for is all these "Bounce Back Seasons", so if Dunn, Rios, Beckham and even Peavy "Bounce Back", you do need some pitching.

I would have been comfortable trading Danks for the haul that the Padres got for Latos.

Then they would have had to trade him 3 years ago because Latos is under team control for 4 years.

Wait till his next thought on baseball. Although it's impressive to fit that much bad baseball thought into a short statement like that, very efficient.

I understand that. On the other hand, Danks is probably a better pitcher which is why KW wanted so much for him from suitors, including the Reds.

This is still a good deal by todays standards. And lets face it, the Central is winnable with no big spending teams. The Twins model seems to be what a lot of teams are going for and I like it. A couple of superstars mixed with descent pitching with good defense. that can get you to the playoffs. And with three rounds usually the best team in the reg season doesnt win it all. And besides, his contract is still trade-able. Any medium to big market team would still go after him in a pennant race if the Sox chose to deal him during the season.

Its not a deal that is going to hamstring the Sox or a possible trade partner down the road. So its sort of apples and oranges, but I see your point.

But it's not a good point. When you average that money out and look at how old he's going to be at the end, there's nothing unreasonable about the deal from the Sox end of it. I can't believe anyone would try to compare it to Soriano.
