I listened to about 5 minutes. They told me I should not be mad at Angelo and it went downhill from there.

I called in earlier after hearing Jesse talk about how the season's failure falls only on the fact that Cutler was injured. Gene Wojohowski (sp?) gave a-I thought-more informed and educated analysis when he said the blame rested on many people's laps. He also wondered why Lovie was getting a pass and even though I don't agree with that assessment in that many people have criticized him for his decisions and game planning, I do think his job is not in trouble.

Jesse misses the point with Angelo. He has grabbed pieces from free agency that have worked, but you also need a solid group of draft picks that you can build with. The Bears have shown that they can not do this under his guidance. I argued that teams have found replacements when key players have gone down and have made it work. Last year's Packers had 12 guys on IR and won the Super Bowl. The Texas this year lost Foster, Johnson and Schaub and still got to the playoffs. Of course, there is the Tebow situation and they still have a shot at making the playoffs. Those teams used guys they drafted and developed to step in and help when needed. Free agent signings were filling in pieces, not being the cornerstones of teams. The Bears seem to have it the other way around.

Glaring offseason needs were not capably addressed by the team. Carimi may still turn out to be a good player, but we won't know that for a while due to his injury. The offensive line is a makeshift one that looked worse far more often than it looked good. There is still not a solid, number one receiver on the team.

Jesse pointed to the team being 7-3 and well on their way to the playoffs at the time of the injury. Early on, they beat teams they should have beaten, but lost to teams that they would probably lose to in the playoffs. Jesse brought up Atlanta, but that was the first game of the season and, frankly, I don't think Atlanta is that good. New Orleans pounded the Bears. The Packers beat them in Soldier Field. Detroit took care of them as well. The Bears went on to play poor teams after that and the record got better. Last year they had the easiest schedule in football and the luck of the draw in playing the worst playoff eligible team in Seattle.

My point is that they put parts in to be competitive but they do not look at the big picture and develop talent that can be here for a while and serve as the cornerstones to your future. What is this team's future? Cutler and Forte are young but I see nothing else in the way of good, young talent that is going to make major contributions. I think you have some good role players, but not frontline starters who can make an impact. This error falls on Jerry Angelo.

I went back over the 2005, 2006 and 2010 schedules and the Bears have had some good draws in terms of their opposition. Those division winning years were aided by schedules that included many teams that finished with losing records in each of those seasons. The Bears benefitted by having weak schedules each season.

In just a glancing over of those years, I also noticed that Lovie's record against teams with winning records is not very good. In fact, I went over teams that were 8-8 and his record is still not outstanding. What it tells me is that they were winning the games they should have, but when you need to beat some of the better teams the Bears seem to come up short.

This tells me that Lovie has trouble with the big games, but it also shows that Jerry hasn't put together enough talent to get over the hump in being on a level with the likes of New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New Orleans and Green Bay. Those are teams that seem to have a legitimate chance each year to win it, while the Bears fall more into a category of "if things break right". That is not good. The Bears are what they are, which is competitive. However, they are not championship caliber and there is a difference. Sadly, I don't think Angelo and Smith have a solid plan in place as to what the future of this franchise is. As a result, I don't think they have drafted well enough to have the team be a force on a consistent basis.

Some in the business call Jessie BIG DUMMY, yes to his face.

Yesterday he lived up to it.

In Jessies mind, all that mattered was the final record.
