Of course he can. And he will. In fact, I'm pretty sure that in the 110 year existence of the franchise, the White Sox have never had a catcher hit better than AJ. I really doubt that Tyler Flowers will be the man to change that.

AJ has one year left on his 2 deal 8mil deal signed 12/4/2010. He is on the books this year for 6 million.

I like having AJ back for next season - he's at least another lefty bat and can do some DHing if Dunn is a bust again. Flowers is hopefully the future at catcher, but he has to show he can hit over a course of a season. He won't get the majority of at-bats at catcher, but he'll play 2 or 3 times a week and that's a good way for him to break in, and for the White Sox to get a pretty good look at him.

He's Scotty Pods without the speed and avg. He doesnt drive in runs, he's over rated at calling games, hasnt had a clutch hit in years and he cant throw. What does he do?

Laughs at the Sox for letting him get the ten and five?

Come on, now. He's got a higher career average than Podsednik and he's a better baserunner. Pods is a fast guy whose speed has never really helped anyone at all- a mediocre outfielder and a guy who gets caught stealing a lot. I don't know whether AJ is overrated at calling a game or not. I've never thrown to him. What does he do? He hits about 100 points higher than Tyler Flowers ever has.

BIG FUCKING DEAL.....He is allergic to knocking in runs and can't throw out a baserunner.

Sure, more RBIs would be nice. But the Sox have a lot bigger problems right now than catcher.

Like Frank said, there are a lot bigger problems than catcher. How many catchers are there that drive in 100 runs, or even 80? And yeah, he doesn't have the best arm, but a lot of the steals have to do with the fact that Sox pitchers can't or don't hold anyone. And now the one guy that did is gone. I have no problem with the Sox finding a better catcher than AJ. Tyler Flowers ain't it.

It shouldn't take much for Flowers to be a more productive hitter than AJ. AJ doesn't slug and doesn't take walks and those are the two things that Flowers will provide. Flowers will hit for a lower average but his OBP should still be higher because of AJ's inability to ever take a walk.

AJ has a .324 career OBP. I will bet you right now that Flowers will NEVER be able to post a higher OBP than Pierzynski. He hasn't proven he can hit big league pitching at all. In fact, I would be willing to bet that Flowers won't be on the White Sox by 2013. If Tyler Flowers is the answer, we're asking the wrong question.

So what could possibly lead you to believe he can get on more than 32% of the time at the big league level?

Well, I guess that could be a school of thought. I don't believe it's going to translate though. I see him as a guy who was viewed as a good hit/no field catcher who may turn out to be just the opposite. I will grant you that catchers sometimes take more time to develop than guys at other positions. He's 26 years old already. He's not a guy I'd want to hang my hat on. I see him as the last chance to salvage something out of a brutal trade wherein Idiot Kenny gave away Javy Vazquez for nothing because Idiot Guillen didn't consider him a "gamer", whatever the fuck that is.

I know you're always looking at the Sox through rose-colored glasses. But there have been too many horrible trades that resulted in giving away valuable players for nothing- Vazquez, Swisher, Hudson. What do the Sox have to show for it? Jason Frasor and Brent Lillibridge.

Isnt the unknown from Flowers better than AJ's mediocrity year after year? Been there done that. He's a left side hitting catcher who cant hit.

I don't think so. And I wouldn't really call AJ a guy who can't hit. He's a career .285 hitter who hardly ever strikes out.

avg is over rated. If Flowers hit .235 with 15 HRs and 70 RBIs and occassionally threw out a guy then Flowers is the easy choice for #1.

If Flowers does that, he's AJ with fifty points less of average and three more homers.

If he does that, he's fifty points in avg behind, nearly twice the HRs, nearly twice the RBIs and ten years younger. I dont see any positive for AJ continuing to start.
