He's in charge of the run game and will be paired with a 'passing game' coach.

Holy hell. The Bears have middle management within the OC position.

So does that mean it is like having co-offensive coordinators?

Another decision the GM wont get to make.

Maybe they should wait til after the draft to hire a GM.

It seems they think they dont need one...

I had to laugh at the article using "rights" instead of "writes".

"Glazer rights that Tice will be paired with a “passing game” coach, with Tice in charge of the running game and holding the coordinator title. The Bears reportedly want a “ground-based” approach which sounds like good news for Matt Forte.

How enticing for a potential GM...

"Ok, we've got a coach and a coaching staff that you can't get rid of. For this year anyway. AND we've got an OCoord, but he only calls the running plays. Oh and you answer to the coach, and Ted, and George. And Virginia is still alive so she has some say too. And the grass at Soldiers Field sucks. So, you want to be our GM??"

Mercy.

That is fucking ridiculous. Also, they are deciding on their offensive apporach before hiring the GM.

Im starting to hate the people in charge over there.

This is a joke. One of the silliest decisions ever. Give Tice the job with no strings.

Classic Bears. Lovie picks the guy who he can control easy. Looks like a rushed decision and didn't really bring anyone in.

Agreed

Disagree, to a certain extent. Let the new GM decide on who is the OCoord-- be it Tice or somebody else.

If a person isn't qualified to handle the totality of the offense than he has no business being a coordinator.

Who is going to come in here with the duty to only handle the passing game of a run oriented offense?

Why would the GM making coaching hires? Isn't that the job of the head coach?

I think its the GM's call but he should be in the decision process at the very least

Should always be. They should have some input.

I am also amazed that a guy who has been a head coach would accept a position as an OC without the ability to run the passing side of the offense

49ers, Cowboys, Cardinals and Saints use the same method FWIW. Tice is the OC and will make all the calls, the new Asst will simply own passing during the week game planning.

So...with a running coach AND a passing coach, this certainly means they are not very likely to get the plays to Cutler any quicker.

this was a very predictable move..not many guys wanted this position on a one or 2 year deal with lovie on the verge of being fired next season.

Dowell Loggains being eyed for the passing coordinator position. Currently holds that position with the Titans. Cutler wanted him last time instead of Martz.

I hope your right then maybe the Bears can complete the house cleaning. Unless of course they promote Ruskell to GM & tell him that Lovie is protected.
