Is this correct?

The three picks that the Bears traded away for Jay Cutler resulted in these players being drafted.

DE Robert Ayers - Average player.
WR Mike Wallace - Pro bowler
OL Anthony Davis - Started all 32 games for the 49ers.

Obviously, the Bears may not have made the same choices(likely Jeremy Maclin instead of Ayers if available, otherwise Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks, or Kenny Britt)

Discuss.

Note: Before anyone else says it, I am cancelling out Kyle Orton for a 5th round pick because a starting NFL QB for a 5th rounder seems to fit in with the values of other trades.

Note 2: I know I hate Jay Cutler.

.

We need more than this.

As I pointed out to the good Doctor last week, starting does not automatically = good

Alex Barron started for 5 years.

I wanted to get Nicks and Loadholt in the first draft. I didn't pay attention to the second one because the Bears had no picks. I'm still sad they did not get Clady the year before that?

You don't think starting from day one and starting every game since at OL is evidence of something?

My jalopnik like research indicates that blogs think Davis played well.

It is evidence of staying healthy. Could aslo be evidence of poor depth or a GM WANTING his pick to succeed.

Im not saying he's bad. Just saying starting is not automatically good.

I don't know how else to judge offensive lineman though. I will say that staying healthy shouldn't be taken for granted given the Bears history at OL draft picks.

Roger is correct. If there is anything Bears fans have found out over the past 2 seasons, just because you start on Oline doesn't mean you are good.

No, I'm pretty sure that if a Bears OL draft pick started from day one and played two consecutive seasons we'd be calling him a great pick.

 Anti numbers/eye test guy would have a heart attack reading this.

Im not sure there IS a real good number to define lineman. Im sure there is a way with advanced metrics but i guess the OL Eye test will have to work.

JaMarcus Webb is close

Started 28 of 32 games

Exactly.

I could have posted a better pic of him, but I figured him picking Cutler up off the ground was telling enough.

This thread sure is fun!

Webb was a good pick. What is your point?

So you think Webb's play over that stretch of games has been "good"

You guys are both nuts. How can you call that a great pick when his play on the field has been so bad?

He was a 7th rd pick. He's a decent back up/swing tackle. Good pick.

Dont hold it against him that the Bears idiocy in drafts have them trying to make a 7th rder a franchise LT

I don't think he's been good but he's been better than expected. In judging the pick, you'd have to say he overachieved.

My point was that in general, if you draft an OL, and he starts from day one, and continues to start every game the next two years, that he likely was able to help your team a lot. Now, maybe Anthony Davis is terrible but I don't know enough about the offensive line of the 49ers to make any statement either way outside of the bare minimum of OL statistics that exist.
