We're a week away from the draft, so it seems like the right time to start this post.

I'll admit that I don't watch college football religiously enough to pick out who I think would be best at the #31 and #37 spot, so I can't pick out a particular player beyond what I'm told by others. I would really like to see one of those picks go to an O-lineman- Maybe Ben Grubbs out of Auburn, who seems to be considered the best guard in the draft. I'd also like to see a receiver taken in the first day, and maybe a project receiver in the day two. Besides from that, the Bears are in a weird position where most of the players they have are probably better than that which you could get in the draft, but none are incredible except Urlacher. That's why I think the best way to go is heavy on O-line, where you can hopefully set a foundation for a decade to come.

If the Bears don't take Grubbs, he might come available at 37. Personally, I'd like to see them grab one of three players at 31:
- Jon Beason LB Miami
- Lawrence Timmons LB FSU
Both are smaller backers, Beason could be an inside guy in the NFL but Timmons is more sideline to sideline guy that would work in a Cover 2 scheme.
- Dwayne Jarrett WR USC
With Moose hitting 34 this year, they need to take a hard look at this position and if a player with this talent drops in your lap, you have to consider it.

I'm hearing that both Steve Smith and Anthony Gonzalez could go ahead of Jarrett.

I'd be happy with any of these guys at 31 and/or 37.

Quincy Black LB New Mexico.
Dwayne Jarret WR USC
Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida St
Dwayne Bowe WR L.S.U.
Steve Smith WR USC
Antonio Pittman RB Ohio St.

Probably Smith, I'm not sure about Gonzalez. I think 31/37 is too high to be drafting WRs for this draft. The Bears should be trying to find linemen.

I want no freaking part of Dwayne Jarret's lazy ass on the Bears. I will be forced to consume alcohol if this happens.

Coach do you really think they are looking for a tight end that high in the draft? Clark has a few more years on his contract.

Miller is probably a better TE but I still don't think we need one.

Isn't Miller more of a blocker than a receiver? We need somebody who can find the hole in the cover 2. I'm not sure Miller is that guy. Won't Olsen be gone before the Bears pick?

I don't have a guy, but if I did, my position would definately be on the delivery end of things...

Wait, that's not what this thread is about...oops...

The Bears use their TE as more of a blocker than as a receiver.

I think Miller played 1 more year than Olsen but has twice the TDs and yrds.

My top five for picks #31 and #37 (in no particular order):

Ben Grubbs OG Auburn
Greg Olsen TE Miami
Lawrence Timmons OLB FSU
Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
Dwayne Jarret WR USC

I dunno, I'm really itchy about the wide receivers in this draft, especially down at 31-37. I understand that the Bears need a serious upgrade at the position, but I don't know that beefing up the line isn't more important/more safe for the long hall. It seems like you can pick up a couple of 2nd day receivers with raw talent, let 'em duke it out, and pick out the least horrible one. OR- I'd like to see that kid that broke the Division I-AA touchdown record this year (Jerry Rice's old record). He should be around in round 6 or 7.

Indianapolis Colts - I know you guys don't care, but here's who I would want...

Jon Beason LB, Miami (a perfect for the Cover 2 defense)
Anthony Gonzalez WR, Ohio State
Ben Grubbs, OL Auburn

LaRon Landry is my guy. He won't be there for the Bears and I don't think they would move up to get him.

I wouldn't have a problem with the Bears taking any of those guys right before you, Ryan.

Spaulding, where does the Jarrett is lazy stuff come from? I knew he had nagging injuries, but from everything I've heard the kid plays hard on game day. Ask Leon Hall.

Also where does the new Quincy Black love come from??? I know he's a local kid made good, but I'd never heard much on him until the other day's article. Is this just more of the rah-rah/small town mentality this city has (but won't admit) or is he certifiably that good?

Dolphin, I heard Waddle predict on THE SHOW last night that Bears would trade up to 6 and pick LaRon Landry.

So you and Waddle are of one mind.

Is that possible in Scott Bakula's world?

His 40 time doesn’t worry me as I think that stat is dumb. If you do a google search Jarrett work ethic there are more than a few articles that mention his poor work ethic. If that's true keep him, we already have Cedric Benson's giant assed kinda producing ego and I’d prefer not to have a David Terell part deux. He’s a putz and I don’t think his college career will translate to the NFL. Meachum and Gonzalez are better prospects.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football ... htm?csp=34
Scouting report: His success at Southern California (he scored 41 touchdowns in 38 games) has not translated to projections of a surefire dynamo in the NFL. Questions linger about his disappointing 40 time (4.62 at his pro day) and about his work ethic and attitude.

In this article look at the negatives and compare to http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/jarrett_dwayne

Safety at #6? Sounds way too high for the position.

Agreed and aren't the Bears okay at safety? I'd like to see the lines, WR, and maybe LB addressed.

They are okay IF mike brown comes back and remains at 100%. Otherwise you have to pray that Daniel Manning makes a huge leap between year 1 and 2.

I think if they stayed at 6 they would take Willis at LB. That would kind of suck as you would be excanging a pro bowl LB for a rookie LB in a weak LB class.

I'd like the Bears to take a one of the guards at 37 (blaylock, sears or grubbs). With 31 I'd take a tackle if Staley or Brown is available (which they will not be), or a WR. I really, really, really like Steve Smith but I just do not know if he is worthy of a 1st rounder.

Here is my orgasmic scenario: trade Briggs and 31 to Wash for 6 and swap in the 6th round. Trade 6 to Dolphins for 9 and 2nd rounder. Take Willis at 9, Smith with the fins 2nd and grubbs with 37.

This almost sounds like Mike Williams. Are the scouts making comparisons b/w Jarret and Williams by any chance?

Multiple orgasm scenario: Bears trade Cedric Benson to Cleveland for #3, trade down to dolphins, take Adrian Peterson (who I believe is the second best player in this draft).

Yep.

I wish you were the Bears GM good dolphin. I don't know much about Sears but we should get Blaylock or Grubbs. I think I would take the chance on Smith.

My best guesstimate is about 10-15m in cap space. I don't know what shape they'd be in if the Bears had higher picks in the draft. I'd maybe try for a deal with Buffalo or even one of the NE picks.

Cleveland is not that stupid...It'd be worth long distance charges to put a call into Oakland though.

Did we ever get the real story about his "injury" during the Super Bowl?
