I gotta give a shoutout to the fine fine people @ keurig because their product kicks some serious ass! I heard about these things from my brother, who still works @ the library i used to work at from 97-05, where they employ one of these in the breakroom to effectively upgrade their longtime coffee service.

For those who don't know, the Keurig K-Cup is a total first world product that is a single-serve all-in-one coffee/filter combo that you pop into their specialized coffeemakers, thus allowing you to insert water and hit one button and BLAM, you've got a steaming hot fresh cup of coffee. Noteworthy about the Keurig design is that as opposed to traditional coffeemakers where you have the water drip down through the coffee and a filter THEN hit the pot, where it's heated from the bottom... the Keurig coffeemakers actually heat up the water before they spit it through the individual cups, thus providing you with a hot-n-fresh cup of coffee that is steaming fresh and ready to go within a minute or so.

I got one of these for my grandfather for christmas, and having one around the house has definitely made the morning coffee situation soooooo much infinitely better than the usual instant-coffee fare, or even the sporadic "let's whip out the coffeemaker" thing, cuz typically if you brew a pot of coffee it just sits there on the heater and eventually gets old and stale... whereas with the K-Cups, every cup is freshly brewed so you're all set and ready to go every time.

The best part is that the companies who sell their products in K-Cup format don't bend you over and rape you for them, even tho they're decidedly a first world product. I think my grandfather mentioned that a 12-pack of Caribou Coffee is something like $6-7, which is something like 50 cents for a cup of coffee? SOLD! I know dunkin donuts is selling 14-packs for like $11, but i'm pretty sure if people aren't going OMFG WOO!!! to buy them they'll come down in price too, so I look forward to that.

Does anyone else here get down with teh K-Cups in the morning? Speaking of, my fresh cup of Caribou is up.... gotta jet!

Dark Magic is the best one. Usually 66c a cup on Amazon, but sometimes they have sales and it drops down to 60c. It is definitely more expensive than making coffee by the pot, if you are going to drink a whole pot. Overall it is a good compromise between paying the SBUX prices and having a SBUX quality cup of coffee.

French press for us. Have heard great things about the keurig, though.

I have the Bosch Tassimo, which is also really good. The only downside is the selection. More variety with the Keurig, especially Dunkin Donuts, which isn't available with the Tassimo.

good call. the way i view k-cups is that for something like 50 cents i'm getting that "SBUX"-caliber cup of coffee... obviously, dealing with any larger volume of coffee by the pot-load or instant-coffee-jar-full is going to be cheaper, but for having a proper DECIDEDLY FIRST-WORLD PRODUCT i think the price is quite reasonable given the quality of the product.

also, for me... see, i'm the type to wake up, have a cup, and then head out the door within ~45 minutes or so. my grandfather isn't a bigtime coffee drinker (altho having the keurig around has compelled him to drink coffee more often since it's so damn good), so unless i was making some ridiculously small pot of coffee we'd end up having a cup or two of that dreaded ass-end-of-the-pot that sits around and waits for either somebody takes one for the team by having that cup of coffee they ideally didn't want to have, or well, it just gets wasted.

i'm willing to pay the slightly steeper prices for the convenience and disposability factors alone. i don't have to deal with used filters leaking spent coffee grounds all over the place, as the mess is neatly contained within the little k-cup, and i don't have to fuck around with any sort of effort. water. cup. button. coffee in under 90 seconds? count me in.

all in all, i'm glad i live in a first world country with a third world economy so i'm able to enjoy these nice affordable conveniences in life!

I am a Dunkin Donuts drinker and have tried the single serve DD coffee in that machine. It's ok. For weekends at home, we just brew a pot of whole bean DD coffee, and it's great. The single serve is ok, but not nearly as good as fresh ground beans. I think the novelty of the whole thing has people singing its praises. But it sure is better than grocery store coffee like Folgers and the like.

Its a travesty that Tim Horton's is not available in a K-Cup.

Dunkin Donuts at home. at work it's Folgers. Sometimes I'll stop at Mobil and crab something from the cappuchino machine. Not picky.

I brew Dunkin Donuts at home. Got a maker with a timed setting so when I wake up in the AM coffee is ready to go! Its not the same as going to Dunkin Donuts, but it works. Its Folgers for now at work, it was Maxwell House just a week ago. Once a week or so I'll stop at DD and treat myself to a cup. Speedway has some decent coffee.

I don't like very strong coffee (lotsa cream & equal) so for the most part coffee is coffee for me. Gotta be fresh though. If its been brewed more than about 30minutes ago I want no part of it.

Lately I've been starting my binges on the weekends with a little bit of Baileys in a a cup of coffee. Muy bein!

Hot apple cider with some whiskey is nice on a cold evening.

I've read that but I only have 1 cup a day so I'll roll the dice on this one. I guess I live on the edge.

At my office, we have the 'single pot' prepackaged coffee grounds. I forget the brand...tastes good though. Obviously there is a convenience upcharge on those instead of buying buckets of coffee grounds...but it is worth it in the end. If someone wants to buy the single serving coffee stuff, why not?

I just didn't picture sini as the type.

I never said no one should use them. I just said it wouldn't be my thing. Might be good for the single folks out there, who don't drink whole pots of coffee.

I have some married friends with one and when we're over for dinner, we all have to wait in line for our single brewed cups of coffee. Annoying.

I'll take my coffee maker with the built in bean grinder any day...
