It's a common shortened version of Laurence, just deal with it. Thats what I would do anyway.

I agree with this. He's letting everyone know what bothers him which isn't usually the way you want to go...

The "Larry" thing is all about deference. LAURENCE commands respect, which I don't know if he truly deserves.
He's an overpaid fill-in. He was one half of possibly one the five worst radio pairings on The Score (Hamp and Holmes).
He's always playing up to whomever he's paired with -- saying "by cracky" with Terry. He shouts down callers, because he thinks he's the Black Bernstein. Also tries to act like a know-it-all. He just comes off very disingenous on the airwaves.

From someone who has a name that's rarely shortened....I don't like people calling me Lee or Alish or anything else their lazy asses come up with to shorten my name. It's Alishia. If you don't want to call me by my name (or an approved moniker), don't expect a response.

I didn't say I was unbiased, and no one who posts here could be completely unbiased on the subject anyway.

I also never said he didn't get angry, although I don't think he did, and yes he raised his voice. He had to, to be heard over the loud caller who wouldn't stop talking so that he could respond.

LAURENCE raised his voice first. That's my point. The caller didn't start shouting out of the gate. LAURENCE was the one who rose his voice, and the caller just responded.
RPB asked for an unbiased account. Your use of the word "idiot" shows a true lack of effort to show any level of objectivity. I agree nobody can truly be 100 percent unbiased, but you weren't even close.

Hub almost always introduces LoHo as "our very own Heavyweight Champion of the World, Larry Holmes" on the weekends.

LoHoy has never lit Hub up.

I remember when the dear boy Herb was on the board defending Laurence for wanting to be called Laurence.

Speaking of the "dear boy himself," when is Dr. Phil, I mean "Ask Herb", coming back to Laurence's nighttime show?

Whether you think he deserves it or not, doesn't mean he shouldn't demand it. Everyone should demand to be respected.

His being overpaid is your opinion and also has nothing to do with his dislike of being called Larry. Obviously, since he's continuously being employed and even moving up in the industry, not everyone agrees with you, especially the people signing his checks.

Laurence always says "by cracky". This has nothing to do with Terry or even with being on air.

Being educated and using said knowledge when needed isn't acting like a know-it-all.

I guess you just hear what you want from him. He can sound disingenuous at times, but usually, he's very humble and grateful for where he is and how he's gotten there.

Lee and Alish are not nearly as common or accepted as shortening Laurence to Larry.

In fact, id guess most Laurence's prefer to be called Larry.

Regardless, he makes way too big a deal out of it.

Kind of hard to shorten Alishia and still have a clue what someone's first name actually is.
Larry can be short for Laurence -- Yes, the CAPS things was annoying.
I know there are Holmes fans out there, and that's fine. To each is own -- and that's not the issue.

I don't mean you should run around shouting that you must have it. I meant that you shouldn't allow yourself to be disrespected, therefore demanding respect.

Generally speaking the concept of lack of respect over a name is a stretch. If a name is used derogatorily or derisively, I can agree. My guess is that this guy was doing it because, as reported earlier, the guy knew it would get under his skin. Laurence vs Larry...it's not like the possible Richard vs Dick. Names are a bland moniker of a person. Personally, it doesn't bother me what someone chooses to call me as long as it isn't consistently insulting. There are many ways to be disrespected that should cause a response. A version of a name is in my opinion is one of the smallest possible.

edit...wow takes too long to get a thought out.

Just listened to the podcast. The transcript here made the guy sound better than he was. Not that you could really hear him over LoHo yelling.

Also, Laurence is the one who "wishes he has a horrible day."

I worked with a dude when I was a teenager who was named Lawrence and he had a gold chain that said "Larry".

And Laurence's thing is that he was named after Laurence Olivier or whatever, so that makes it different from Lawrence.

And thanks Dr. Ken, I didn't quite remember.

My cousin Brian goes by Briguy and I feel the urge to punch him each time I hear it.
:shudder:

I'm not particularly fond of shortened versions of my real name either but then again it's like the most common name on the planet (hyperbole... I know) and when I hear my name like 5 other guys thought they did too. Sucks. WHy couldn't I have a name with more pizzaz like Bez or something?

I know a guy very intimately. His name is Robert. He can go by Robert, Rob, Bob, or Bobby. He does not get pissed off when people call him any of those.

That is all. :D
