* ACCUMULATIONS... SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 4 TO 7 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* HAZARDS... SNOW WILL FALL HEAVILY AT TIMES RESULTING IN REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND SNOWFALL RATES OF AROUND ONE INCH PER HOUR AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS... ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED TRAVEL TIMES... RESULTING IN A PARTICULARLY TREACHEROUS COMMUTE THIS AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION... VERY COLD TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS WILL MAKE SALT LESS EFFECTIVE AND COMBINE WITH HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES TO MAKE IT HARDER FOR ROAD CREWS TO KEEP ROADS CLEAR OF SNOW AND ICE. THE SNOW WILL ALSO RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT DISRUPTIONS TO AIR TRAVEL AS WELL.

I had a meeting with at 1:00pm at my office that I cancelled. The meeting was with a guy who works in the City and he was telling me at noon that it wasn't bad yet....whereas we had nearly 3" and it was whiteout conditions. He said: "I'm not afraid of 3", I'm coming up there."
I hung up...called him 10 minutes later when I saw cars spinning out and told him that it wasn't worth it and we'll meet on Monday.

not all of them. this morning during my commute i stopped off @ mcdonalds for a mcgriddle/coffee and i saw one of the mcd's employees tossing salt all over the sidewalks/walkways in anticipation of the forthcoming armageddon.

so there is one little caveat to your statement up there; all of the snow "removel" people, SAVE THIS ONE EXEMPLARY EXAMPLE OF HUMANITY @ MCDONALD'S, dropped the ball.

Like sini said, we're not in Houston. This isn't even a particularly heavy snow. It's just the kind of snow we usually get a few times each winter. But for some reason this one has the city paralyzed. I have to think they just have no budget for snow removal at all. I mean this is ridiculous. It took me two and a half hours to get to Rogers Park from Ogden and Ashland at 3:00 in the afternoon. This is the kind of snow that should up your commuting time fifteen or twenty minutes. This is worse than what Bilandic got bounced for. Where the fuck is Rahm?

4 hours from Round Lake to Bloomingdale. FML

Left at about 2:30 from Naperville -- got to Homewood at 5:30. Passed up 355 to go the 294 route -- two lanes exit S on 294 from 88 and only one for 355. I think that was a pretty good decision -- that exit was backed up for about 2 miles and I heard later there was a hauler stalled out in the left lane right before the merge onto 80.

Saw about 9 plows out, so they are definitely out there.

I drove on I 94,I 57, and I 80 around 2pm and again around 3 pm and I saw no plows at all. Hope they get these roads cleaned up by the morning.
