Reported by Scott Swaim at MLBInside News. Jim Bowden disagrees.

So who knows.

Prince Fielder: 9 years, $214 million, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman via Twitter. Bye bye Miguel Cabrera in Detroit? Victor Martinez out for the season too...

It's not out of the question...Gotta think that Fielder plays first base or full-time DH with Victor Martinez out for the season.

Not true. If Cub fans initiate a Hot and Now 5 dollar pizza drive they may just have enough money.

Well, the Anaheim Angels are paying a lot of $$$$ to Albert Pujols, too.

Understood, but who else at this time was willing to give him that much. Would love to know what Boras was telling the Tigers on the other supposed offers he had.

You'd think so but he will get a pass like Paxson does for lucking into Rose

I don't hate the deal. With their team. It's very similar to Soriano where they are banking on winning within the next 4-5 years

Bernstein thinks the Prince Fielder/Tigers' deal is "Hendry-esque"...

Except you can stick Fielder at DH at the end of the deal.

Word is they are moving Miggy to 3b. Good for your fantasy team, not so good for your real team.. IIRC he was a butcher over there when younger, skinnier, (and probably more sober  ) I can't imagine he would improve now... once again Bora$ gets the "mystery bidder" to pony up a ridiculous amount of years and dollars. I wish the owners would show some restraint with this guy for once, but as they say, it only takes one team...

Didn't see this coming. That's a hell of a lot of money and years but holy crap that lineup is going to be scary as fuck for the next 3-4 years. Miggy and Prince can combine to knock in close to 300 runs a year. I really can't see them playing Miggy at 3B for an extended period of time. Those two will move back and forth from 1B/DH.

As most of you know I am a Brewers fan, but will honestly wish him all the best. Unfortunately, I knew they could not resign him, and I just didn't want him in the division. He was a hell of a ballplayer during his years here, and played as hard as anybody. I hope he can stay healthy, because his numbers will end up scary. The only way I was pulling against him at all, was Boras. That fucker is good, but I can't stand him. If I was a great player I would love to have him as my agent, but from the outside, fuck him!!!

At least you have the rumors that Braun may not get popped after all for his positive test going for you now.

That would be unbelievable news, but I still think he misses games. I am not sure he gets the whole 50, but I still think he will get 25 at the least.

Cards closing in on Roy Oswalt?
Gordon Edes ESPNBoston.com | January 28, 2012

Free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt has elected to remain in the National League and is likely to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals "soon," a major league source said late Friday night.

Presumably, any agreement would be pending a physical for Oswalt, who has a history of back problems.

"It's not yet 100 percent," the source said.

On Saturday, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak wrote in an email to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, "These are just rumors, and nothing more."

Oswalt, one of the last big-name free agents still on the market, had been ardently pursued by the Boston Red Sox, among others. Another team reportedly in the mix for Oswalt was the Texas Rangers, while CBSSports.com reported late Friday night that Oswalt had rejected an offer from the Detroit Tigers.

Marlins Make Offer To Yoenis Cespedes
By Zach Links [February 11 at 3:00pm CST]
3:00pm: Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via Twitter) hears that the Marlins offered Cespedes less than $40MM.

1:54pm: Yoenis Cespedes met with Marlins brass this week and returned to the Domincan Republic with an offer worth roughly $40MM over six years, a source close to the negotiations told Eric Reynoso of Cafe Fuerte. Cespedes, according to the source, still doesn't have any immediate plans to meet with other teams.

Prior to meeting with Cespedes, Marlins president David Samson hinted that the club would make an offer to the Cuban outfielder. The interest seems mutual as Cespedes told reporters that he would like to play in Miami.

Also within the piece, Reynoso writes that utility player and fellow Cuban Adonis Garcia became a free agent on Thursday. Agent Carlos Perez says that he has fielded interest from six teams, though the Marlins are not among them. The 26-year-old, who has shown the ability to hit for power, spent this winter with the Magellan Navigators of the Venezuelan League.
