I have made my first two purchases towards my new gaming PC.

Motherboard: Asus P8P67 L1155 Motherboard (ATX, P67 chipset, RLC892 7.1 audio, CPU and RAM overclocking)
Processor:
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB, dual channel) DDR3-1600 RAM (8-8-8-24)
Graphics Card:
Hard Drive: 500GB WD 7200RPM HDD (leftover from current PC, also need 1 more)
Power Supply: Antec 850W PSU (leftover from current PC)
CPU Fan:
Case: Antec 900 ATX Case (leftover from current PC)

Goal is to run games like Battlefield 3 and The Witcher 2 on max settings, 1920x1200...hopefully on 1 GPU.
Why did you go cheap on a lot of it?

3 leftover parts. That's pretty lame.

All I know is that if I'm building a computer to impress people on a sports message board I'm not building it with a bunch of used parts. It just comes off cheap like you don't really have the ability to go all out and really make your new PC as impressive as possible.

I pay other people to build my computers.

I'm sorry you're poor.

Oh, I agree. It really is nothing special to build your own.

Building a computer is an unnecessary skill for just about everyone on this board. No one needs to be educated on it through a sports message board. You are wasting your time.

Sadly, you're asking about gaming computers, something I've never had any interest in. Don't go cheap on the video card, don't get a crappy board with poor video support. Beyond that, I have no Gifsoup images for you...

I would not recommend the computer you have described to someone who is not intending to play video games on it, but what do I know, you clearly know more about computers than anyone else on this board.

Besides the 850W PSU, what would you do differently?

My planned build is an i7-2600k (OC), the P8P67 (non gamers would go with a H67 or Z68), 8GB dual channeled 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 RAM (will overclock it), Raid 0 HDD... How do those not help normal every day computer use?
I wouldn't recommend a computer that can run the cutting edge of video games to someone who wants to just check email and surf the web.

Obviously, it would be faster, but it's not worth the price. It would be like taking a Ferrari to the supermarket. Yes, you can do it, but you can do it almost as well for cheaper.

So you created this thread to educate people on what they should put in a computer except you think that some of the most important stuff needs to be changed? I guess I don't understand the education here being received.

A custom built PC can have far better specs then your HPs and Dells, for a lower price.
That's true, but part of that is for technical support and warranty. You seem to think that many of the people on this board are not your intellectual equal and yet you want them to willingly give this up. I'm starting to wonder if this thread was created to educate all of us computer idiots on how to build a computer.

Oh, so this was specifically about your PC and not an eduction thread?
immessedup17 wrote:
Are you under the misconception that buying hardware individually includes no warranties or technical support?
No. However, in general it's longer for out of the box PC's(3 years on the last one I bought) and the support is better because they can handle everything all in one spot. It's kind of hard to call up Asus and say "My computers broken" and get help. It's much easier to call up Dell and get help.

Don't forget IMU. We aren't geniuses on here like you.

I'm highlighting an ideal gaming PC build, and offering my PC expertise to others...and Rick wants to slam me for it. However, it does keep bumping the thread, so there's that.

No, what I said was correct...

Did I miss the part where someone was seeking "expertise" on a PC for gaming?

I mean if the console version is identical

I think you underestimate the amount of people who are considering building their own PC but are legally required to avoid the hundreds of sites out there dedicated to building your own pc and need to get this advice from a board dedicated to animated gifs and sports.

Buying vs Building, one thing I like about the boxes I've built is that they go on being useful for fucking ever.
You just swap out components and upgrade. Esp with OS's like linux mint.

The typical pre-fab machine from Lenovo or Dell or whomever starts out with a compromised
motherboard, cheap case and underpowered power supply that limit useful life and future upgrade paths.

You're going to need quite a bit more than the fan you listed if you plan on OC-ing.

In all seriousness,do not reuse the power supply. It is best to start with a new one even though the one you have seems good enough for your needs.I would also bump up my hard drive to at least 750 for the simple fact you need as much space as possible for virtual memory.

I have two HDDs, 500GB each, and I NEVER use virtual memory. Why use virtual memory when you have plenty of overclocked physical RAM? Virtual memory should only be used when you are running out of real memory.

The computer does it automatically. The types of stuff you want to run will require it.The high end games you want to run the program itself will take the virtual memory before taking all your RAM memory. Also the 2 HD is okay but not for what you want to do a better solution is to buy an external to store stuff and go with a bigger main drive it is in your best intrest and not that much more of an investment

I have built PC for over 10 years . The only reason I have a prebuilt one now is I was low on cash and needed one fast. I have built not only for me but for others. This is the reason people do not want to help you, you arrogant fuck. I know what I am doing , I was doing networking when you had to actually manually input the addresses and ports. You are hurting your self by acting like a total jagbag , last time I try to help you fuckwad.

You are completely wrong on this one. Maybe in WIN98SE that virtual memory trick works but not in WIN7 when you have 12GB of RAM available. And once again you are the one acting like a jag. I wouldn't hire you to network my shoelaces together.

Sorry I was going by what I know not built one with Win7.So I might be wrong.
Really I built a network for 3 trading firms so I know what to do regarding networking.I may be a jerk but I am honest when I am wrong. Fuck off asshole I would not let you ref my match if I was Ram Jam dickhead. Why go personal like that when all you had to do was disagree and have a conversation ,moron.

If you aren't familiar with WIN7 you should probably hold off on giving PC advice Champ. There is no way you built a network for 3 trading firms and are buying retail PCs. If you were any good at it you would have a solid job and not be in some shithole city you describe trying to bum rides to liquor stores. You are full of shit on many levels. You are quick to pull "personal attack card" when it is always you who initiates it. And I am far from a moron. Surprised you even spelled that correctly in your crack induced posting haze.
