So Dale Tallon won that cup?

No. Not unless you believe that Marty Havlat would've been just as helpful as Marian Hossa.
I don't understand. If that roster was the best since the lockout how his that not because of the GM?

Hockey guys, correct me if this isn't right, but I'm sure I read this somewhere. One of the primary tenets of the Bowman team-building philosophy (particularly in the cap era) is the concept that goaltending is overvalued and money is better spent elsewhere.

I'm not sure if that's ever been explicity stated by a Bowman, but the fact that we have Hjammer on this team and not Niemi is pretty convincing evidence that they subscribe to that viewpoint.

I don't think the goal tending is exponentially worse than it was the year they won the cup. It's obviously a step down by not missing the playoffs trajectory bad. The amount of shots and quality of shots is much more to blame. The reasons they are allowed are numerous

Answer my question and I'll answer yours. Do you or do you not believe that Marty Havlat would've been just as helpful to the Cup run as Hossa was?

I posted this several times on the message boards that coach Q drives me crazy. My main problem with him is the line shuffling. Brouwer took a huge shot at Q on his way out of town when he said his poor season was in part because he never was on the same line for more than 3 games in a row.

I have trouble blaming the bottom of the roster for this mess. The best players are on the ice for the vast majority of the game. They are often the ones making glaring mistakes. I have never seen a team so unable to get the puck past the goalie. They always have their chances but either miss the net or can't find a hole.

They cannot get the puck into the zone cleanly on the power play. They mess up the entry 9 out of 10 times.

Can Scotty coach?

Thank you. That answers your question because Tallon was strongly opposed to signing Hossa and instead wanted to keep Havlat.

I'm not ready to give up on Q himself just yet, but shitcanning his buddy Kitchen would make a fine warning shot. Guy just sucks.

What the fuck is Q doing starting Crawford in goal vs. the Sharks? All this shaking shit up is adding to the woes of this team.

Patrick Kane is 1 year away from being on the trading block. I love watching him skate, & he is a good assist Man, but 10 goals just isn't enough. He is 1 year away from being a bust.

Seriously. Stop this. It makes you look really bad. A point a game player isn't a bust in any possible definition you should have.

Dear Coach Q,

Please check out this story.

If you can trade Hammer for a bag of pucks, please do so.

Yours,

I disagree with the bust part, but being almost a point per game guy doesn't make him untradeable. Guys like that get traded all the time.

Right. Obviously there's a lot more to his game. Didn't feel like going into it with someone who's opinion wasn't going to change regardless.

I wonder if the players have tuned Q out? When I look at the Red Wings bench, I see Babcock a lot more engaged with his team. They look more focused. It looks like adjustments are being made on the fly. When I look at our bench, I see our coaches just standing around and a team that has the deer in the headlights look.

Too much talent on this roster to look the w.ay they have in the playoffs the past few years.

Much more talent than Detroit has. So it either comes down to Hawks players not playing up to their potential or coaching. Probably equal parts both.

And my original point in this post still stands. the one thing that is hurting the Hawks more than anything else is their attrocious power play. Last game they had 1 fucking shot in 4 pps. They were fucking outshot by the detroit PK!

Q brought in a new coach to run the PP and it actually got worse if that's even possible. Q needs to go! Its time for him to take responsibility for the PP, not pass it off on some scapegoat assistant he can fire every offseason.

I would also put a lot of blame on Bowman for putting together a team that clearly can't handle what passes for hockey in the playoffs.

It still is a pretty abysmal power play, to be fair. The Kings won a championship and promptly fired Jamie Kompon. The Hawks can too.

He's probably helped the Hawks in this series -VS- the Kings.

No one who knows Hockey thinks that Q should be fired.

Q awoke from his slumber and finally adjusted to matchups after game 3 (IIRC) against Detroit. I really like the way he has the D moving the puck quickly and the support the fwds are giving them to beat LAs forechecking.

He earned the right to pick his assistants after winning the cup a few years ago. However, I am not sure ow well-rounded our staff is. As mentioned, the power play still blows in spite of our immense fire power. Might want to bring in a new assistant with fresh ideas who has a proven track record with the pp. an organization-wide face off consultant might also help, if there are such things.

Back to the topic though. Q has done a really good job since the mid point in the Detroit series.

Not quite, but the Hawks had Yanic Perreault on the roster for Toews's rookie year for more or less this reason.

I remember hearing an announcer during the regular season mention that a team had an assistant coach who was widely regarded as the best at coaching face offs.
