Yes, it's back, the most wonderful time of the year. The Shamrock Shake is making it's appearance at a McDonald's near you. There was a time when it was only available at select locations, but McDonald's announced that it is rolling out the minty shake in all 14,000 restaurants.

I'll readily admit that I don't do fast food, but this is my one exception. I love the Shamrock Shake.

They are changing a bit this year by putting it in a clear plastic cup (apparently they started doing this with all of their shakes), and they're adding whipped cream with a cherry. While I've always known this shake would never be the same nutritional value as my daily protein shake, I always stuck my head in the sand and never looked at the calorie count.

Since I'm really trying to remain healthy this year, I've decided to see how much of this shake I can actually drink without throwing my whole eating plan overboard. There are 540 calories and 16 grams of fat for a small. 840 calories and 24 grams of fat for a large according to the nutritional information on the McDonald's website. Before looking at the actual numbers, I've always convinced myself that because they use reduced fat vanilla ice cream as their base, it couldn't be so bad. Well, I may need to rethink that theory. Maybe a small size, every once in a while...

If you can't locate one yet, go to the "Find the Shake" feature on Shamrockshake.com, and they'll let you know where the closest one is!

Yes, and I don't even care if it's made with real meat or not.

It's a 100% real shake.

It's just not a 'milk' shake. It's also 100% real delicious.

It was better when they served it in the regular drink cup sizes. The smaller McCafe cup with space wasted with whipped cream is bullshit.

I used to love em, I had a little of one today. The shakes are gross now and the whipped cream is stupid.

Mmmm. Tasty...1OO percent high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, sugar, natural plant flavoring (plant source), xanthan gum, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preservative), yellow 5, and blue 1.

Panther's signature is awfully bright.

Yeah. I remember having a scratch n sniff sticker that had Grimace's Irish uncle (a green grimace), promoting the shakes.

Half Shamrock and half Chocolate makes a real nice shake.

Even I can vividly remember the old shakes at McDonalds...they switched to the non dairy stuff when I was in high school. They tasted good...and the workers would sometimes mix the shamrock and chocolate shake together for you.

Now the machine auto pours it and they won't.

The world would end if they didn't have an exact count of how many shakes came out of a single bag of sludge mix.

It's a decent shake. But the ones I prefer are:

1. Oberweis - A $5 to $6 shake made with real liqueur.
2. Steak and Shake - From 2 to 4 p.m. they are half priced. Less than $2 for a large shake during that time.
3. Chick-Fil-A - Hand dipped shakes include the seasonal peppermint, banana and vanilla wafer and peach shakes. $2.69 for a small, with is 14 oz. and $3.15 for a large, which is 20 oz.
4. Portillos - Chocolate cake shake. A chocolate shake with a piece of chocolate cake in it. $3 to $4.
5. Culver's - Add a couple toppings to the shake and it's like a concert mixer with more milk. $3 to $4.

Why does Steak and Shake always attract the sober Waffle House crowd?

There's a Scooby's next to the Drive-In that has Green River shakes. However, they're like $3 something for a small.

If you're talking about low end fast food I would put the Wendy's frosty in as an honorable mention although some might say it's not a shake.

IT'S TOTALLY FUNNY THAT YOU SAY THAT BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I REQUESTED YESTERDAY!

But they said that mixing is against store policy - couldn't even get a maverick teenage widow dude to craft a "St. Patty's Arnold Palmer" for me.

When you are fucking the store manager you can pretty much get whatever you want...with a discount.
