Is this one of those real religious schools? I wonder what he did to get booted not only off the team, but out of the school?

Lipscomb dismisses Jordan Burgason

ESPN.com news services

Lipscomb has dismissed Jordan Burgason, the nation's leading 3-point shooter at 52.6 percent, and kicked the senior guard out of the school for an unspecified violation of team rules.

"I love Jordan and wish him nothing but the absolute best," Lipscomb athletic director Philip Hutcheson said in a statement Friday. "But he broke university rules that he knew he was breaking.

the nation in 3-point shooting

"We had clearly advised him, and he was aware of the consequences of making a bad decision."

Burgason, who led the Bisons (6-6, 11-13 Atlantic Sun) in scoring with a 16.4-point average, also topped Lipscomb's career list for 3-pointers in its NCAA era with 282.

"I want to thank Lipscomb for the unbelievable opportunity that it has given me," Burgason said in a statement. "The whole university has showed so much grace to me. But despite that, my actions have not shown a respect for the university and its policies and for that I am sorry."

Burgason twice hit nine 3-pointers in a game this season.

He went 9-for-14 in a 30-point performance to key an 81-64 win at Iowa State on Dec. 21. A month later, Burgason fueled a 73-65 victory at East Tennessee State, going 9-for-13 and scoring 33 points.

"I'll never forget the memories that I've made here," Burgason said. "Thank you for the love and support that everyone has shown throughout my time here. You will always be family to me."
