Not racism. Stereotypes sure. There are stereotypes for all races and ethnic groups. We're all aware of Mike North. Dumb jokes, yeah. We all probably heard "Me put pee-pee in your Coke" when we were in about second grade. But that isn't racism. Nobody is exercising power to deny Asians rights in American society.

Not "can be". But they are the only group currently victimized by racism in larger American society. There have been times when Asians suffered racism in the United States. And Jeremy Lin has definitely been a victim of racism within a specific subculture.

As a kid there were more Arab store owners around where I lived and all of the "markets" were owned by white people. As far as I know I was never followed. I had far more black people stereotyping me as a kid than any other ethnicity. That's not dismissing the profiling and overt racism from whites that I experienced as a kid but I'm just pointing out a fact.

Any group is capable of racism depending on circumstances. It's not that blacks are inherently incapable of racism. That would be a racist viewpoint itself. It's that the history and current conditions in the United States of America make it impossible for them to be racists. Although, I have pointed out the example of black racism within the micro-society of organized basketball.

I would put Hispanics at the top of that list but I don't make the lists. No shit. It hasn't been 70 years since we gathered up a group of Asians and put them in a camp.

I realize the viewpoint I'm promoting here isn't exactly mainstream and white people are generally loathe to even consider it. I'm pretty sure the presentation of similar ideas is what got Dr. William Sampson fired from the Sun-Times.

Jorr you're losing me. There are racists in ever ethnic group in this country. Obviously because of our history and the fact that they make up the majority of our population whites are looked at primarily as being racists. To say that any other group aren't or can't be is just wrong.

Why would basketball not be considered part of American society? If someone can be racist in a subsection of society they are by definition capable of being racist in the larger society. That is the problem with talking in absolutes like you are.
