A 100 win baseball team losing to an 80 win team isn't as big as this desparity in basketball. In baseball you know that can happen. In basketball it doesn't happen. Warriors - 42 wins. Mavs - 67 wins.

In football it's one game playoffs and upsets can happen.

Hell, the Mavs are top 5 wins in regular season history.

I know alot of you are missing this because you don't care and the games are late. I'll bet most didn't know this game 4 was just played on TNT right now. It was a 9:00pm start tonight.

If this wouldn't be the greatest pro upset then tell me what beats it.

I mispelled upset. Calling it upseat. I can't edit it. But I know this would be the greatest. Bigger then Denver beating Seattle in the 94 NBA playoffs. That was a 1-8 matchup as well.

What do you mean it would mean nothing? I know its happened before. Sonics/Denver and Knicks/Miami in the strike season. But not this big. Mavs had 67 wins. This is big Nas. Tell me what pro upset is bigger if you disagree.

I've long thought Baron Davis was underrated, and that's proving out. Wow. It'd be shocking if both defending conference champs were eliminated in the first round.

Boston beating the Yanks was not an upset. Christ. They came back from 3-0 but going in it wouldn't have shocked you that Boston would have won. Plenty thought that was possible. Greatest comeback is different then greatest upset. You know that.

Dodgers vs A's is a good one. But this is bigger. Reds beating A's in 1990 is another one. But not as big. Because baseball is different. You can get a great pitcher for 2 starts. That's half the needed wins. Like Hershiser in that 88 Series. Plus in baseball you can hit the ball hard for outs or hit it poorly for hits.

It's not different in MLB. An upset is an upset. But in MLB there are fewer upset candidates. And you're examples aren't bigger then this Dallas/GS possibility. That's all I'm saying. And I gave you the reason. 1 great pitcher on lessor team and you're half way to a series win. A couple bloop hits and you can win.

Plus. Not only is Dallas a 67 win team this year, but they were in the Finals last year. Same team basically.

I told you why Pistons/lakers wasn't. Pistons were top seed in the East I beleive. Hey, Nuggets/Sonics would be second in my mind. But that was a young Sonic team. First year that team broke out. This Dallas team is coming off an NBA finals. They were solid prior to that Finals apearance. Dirk is still in his prime.

You could argue Nuggets/Sonics. They were up 2-0 when it was a five game series in the 1st round. Nuggets won 3 straight to win it. But those others are way off this potential upset.

I'll take this "never been to the playoffs in 13 years" Warriors team over the "Finals experienced" Mavs team as the greatest ever however.

I don't care if a zero win team beat an 82 win team 4 straight, there's no way I'd consider any first round NBA series as the greatest upset in sports history. That title is reserved for things that happen in championship games/series, not something that happens 2 months before an actual title is decided.

That would be stupid thinking. A 1-8 in the first round automatically leads to a more greater upset then most matchups in the finals. Why? BECAUSE IT'S 1 VS 8.

This one happens to be a 67 win defending West champ vs a 42 win playoff deprived team.

I think there was no question the Warriors have the talent to compete with the Mavs. The difference in the playoffs is that the W's are playing consistent defense. Had they been doing that during the regular season they probably would have won more. Not to mention their rotation wasn't settled until late in the year due to the big trade with the Pacers, and the health of Baron Davis. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that although an 8 seed, the Warriors are actually much better team than that.

And I hate to agree with Barkley, but he's right about Dirk- he's taking way too many jumpers, why doesn't he go down and post up more? Plus there was one play that summed things up, he had a wide open jumper and passed it up to make a difficult pass to Greg Buckner under the basket. The announcers were criticizing him for it, and I agree. Your team is in danger of losing a series and you're the alleged MVP, you've got to score more than 20, and not pass up wide open shots to pass to fucking Greg Buckner

Warriors may be the #8 seed on paper, but look at that team, and how they finished the season with a healthy squad. Over the course of a season, with their starters in the lineup for most of the time, this is a 50 win club. They put up so many points so quickly, it's been really impressive to watch the undderated defense in this series.

Agreed BD. Golden State is far better than their record. However, I think the fact that this, THIS was finally supposed to be the Mav's year makes this upset look greater than what it actually may be.

Yes, to be up 2-0 in the Finals last year to being on the verge of being eliminated in Round 1 with a 67 win team is quite a turnaroud.

I THINK I'm the only Warriors fan on this board but I don't announce that very much. No reason to here. I don't even watch the NBA much because my team has mostly always sucked. This is as excited as I've been since the Rick Barry, Phil Smith and Jamaal Wilkes team of 1975 (when I was living in the Bay Area). I don't want to jinx it but damn it...they are gonna do this! And yes, Nas, I wasn't very happy when the criminal and impetulant Jackson went west, but damn...now he's my criminal and impetulant Jackson.

Warriors have been one of my favorite teams to watch on League Pass the past season with Nelson coaching. Great home team this season, and hoping they pull it out tomorrow.

With Utah likely to win at home tomorrow, and a lot of 'nba experts' believing that Dallas will win in GS tomorrow, Saturday could be a great nba calander day.

FYI, my Warriors affection began around the time of Run TMC. That hooked me. I stayed a fan through the Webber/Spree era, then the Jamison era, then the ill-fated Mookie Blaylock era ( ). The Wolves of course I started following due to KG. I also liked Gugliotta and Brandon and some of their other players. I still like KG alot but I'm not a big fan of any of the other players, e.g. Ricky Davis or Mike James , plus the fact that they are one of the most boring teams to watch right now.

And Atlanta, I like their style, I think they will get a lot better. Despite being a a jackass at times, I still like Josh Smith and I still have faith in Marvin Williams.

Tonight is pretty much the unofficial game 7 for the Warriors. Not that I don't think they can win in Dallas, they won game 1 and almost won the last one, but after blowing a late lead and then if they were to lose at home, I wouldn't give them much chance to recover for a game 7 at Dallas.

I totally agree. Game 7 is tonight for GS. It will be very interesting to see what type of game flow we have tonight. Dallas seemed more willing to run more in Game 5, but I wonder if Johnson will want to keep the pace slowed a bit on the road.

Also will be interesting to see how Dallas defenses Baron Davis. We saw at the end of Game 5 the double teams that forced Davis into a turnover, and just flustered the GS offense. I wonder if he'll attack them if he sees them coming or if they will let Ellis play more point, and have Davis come off screens. Either way, GS needs to be ready for that tonight.

Finally, will the MVP Dirk make a repeat effort tonight ?

I know, as a GS fan in these playoffs, I really am hoping they didn't blow the chance to finish Dallas when they had the 9 point lead late. You hate to give a 67 win team like the Mavs a 2nd chance, and that's exactly what GS did.

For the love of God, Atlanta, find a damn point guard. It doesn't have to be Jason Kidd or Steve Nash, just somebody who can get the ball to some of their playmakers!

I just can't believe how they quit. They were down 20 but there was still like 8 minutes left and they totally quit. Maurice Ager showed more heart in his junk time than Dirk did.

Gutsy performance by Baron (hope he's going to be OK for the next round) and really everyone. Even Monta Ellis, in the time Baron left, played well. And fucking Matt Barnes. Incredible.

I just hope they're not done. I want to see a Suns-Warriors conf. finals.
And if for some reason it comes down to Bulls-Warriors, worlds will collide
