While they have some good core prepared food, it's gotten a little ridiculous at how bad some of the food at the salad bar and hot bar has become. No longer are any chicken salad type trays out there, etc. and at $9 a pound, looking for a little more.

Have written a couple of complaint type emails, that they have really dropped in quality in some of the products they are putting out.

Hey, I realize this is the very definition of white people problems "The salad bar at Whole Foods is bad!"

But todays "Creation" must have been made by the "Guest 6 year old chef day!"

I know it is hard to read, but that is a tray of "CHEESY HOT DOG CASSEROLE!"

The one by me is average. The one in Naperville is excellent.

I kind of wonder if the cheesey hot dog thing was made based on letters received from moms. When I pick up my stuff I always check to see if there is something that the kids would eat at the bars. It's not really a kid food friendly place.

Spaulding, that was at the Gay Whole Foods on Halsted. It is about the most unfriendly kid place around. Not really a kid neighbrohood, considering it is connected to the Halsted Community center .I think thats the name and I am not really sure what the do there?" Ironically, they rarely have meat at the hot bar. They have 3 of those prepared food bar and rarely have real meat. always soy, setain, tofu crap.

The cheesy Hot dog Casserole is the ultimate is just throwing some food into a pot, baking it and giving it a name and trying to pass as a chef!

i've never really been a fan of whole foods...i think it's overpriced and pretentious. they do have good seafood and a decent beer selection. i hear the produce is good but i've never gotten any as it's too expensive.

not being near a old school butcher, i will say that their meats really are top quality. i don't eat steak everyday so when i do, i'm willing to pay a few more bucks a pound for something that's noticeably better to me. plus for instance their ground chuck is usually 4$/lb which is on par if not sometimes cheaper than jewel/dominicks. i agree it's crazy to buy staples like milk/eggs/bread there. their other advantage is they have unusual ingredients there....you're not going to find exotic mushrooms or cheese at the local certi-saver. granted those aren't things the average person uses every day. it's not a store i shop at every day, but it serves a purpose . and yeah, their prepared foods section is incredibly marked up, ridiculous. fresh salmon maybe 9-10/lb, add a few spices and cook it, in the prepared section 18/lb .

Depends on where it's grown and who is doing the study usually, but I get that argument. Why are they responsible for people starving though? There are lots of reasons people go organic or shop at places like whole foods. I don't think your 3rd statement is 100% accurate. Do you feel that way about farmers markets or butchers?

I like Whole Foods for the most part. Their bakery sucks. The prepared food is good in a pinch or for ideas. The meat, seafood, and produce is all good. Some of the prices are crazy. Some of the stuff is comparable to Jewel prices, but Jewel is expensive too. I go there once a week or every 2 weeks. Their "special" foods are usually cheaper than Jewel or Meijer and I like/need some of the products they carry.

Why would I feel that way about farmers markets or butchers?
Organic farms produce much less product per acre. If you don't fertilize, use hybrid seeds or perticides, you lose crops to bugs, or weeds or you don't produce as much because you use inferior seeds.

I'm not a Whole Foods (whole paycheck) fan, but I've been there. Some of it is outrageously priced, but they have some stuff that is reasonable and high quality.

If we are only talking about their pre-prepped stuff, their soups are really good from what I've had.
