Here is thing: last year, he essentially bragged about never touching a bat in the offseason - at least he looks like he took it seriously in the offseason and worked on something. If he doesn't hit now, it's not an excuse that he didn't train right - it will be he's regressing. Hopefully his focus will mean something.

Don't forget the # of called third strikes, since he had no clue of the strike zone by May/June.

I don't think Dunn's problem was being fat, but losing weight definitely cannot hurt him.

I would think after a .159 11 HRs and 177 K's that people would be thrilled if he can get to a .220 25 HR year.

On a one year smaller deal

Yeah, I don't think that's the same situation exactly... I mean it's a $10million guy vs a $56 million guy, and Pena does play significantly better defense and nearly tripled Dunn's HR total. Pena was never more than a guy to hold the position for a year, and he did exactly what they wanted him to do.
