I'd say I go out to eat Mexican probably twice a week. 90% of the time I order tacos. I've established a few favorite places around my home/office, but am always willing to try someplace new.

Despite having a stupid name, No Way Jose Taqueria on Roosevelt in Lombard has some of the best al pastor and al carbon tacos I have found. Nice bar selection too, and there is nothing better than a Victoria with a lime and salt coupled with four tacos.

I haven't made my way out to the places Fealz posted in this forum in the past, but would love to hit up most taco joints on the south side.

What else you got?

Ugie if you're in Orland Hills the best place near there is in Crestwood on 137th and Cicero (El Gallo).

The ones in Orland Park/Hills are marginal

If you want to go fancy, it doesn't get much better than Bien Trucha in Geneva - it's not a taco joint but a Rick Bayless like place in the western burbs. The margaritas are awesome.

In the same general area Ugie, Chicks N' Salsa is pretty good. Another place that's a step up from a taco stand but certainly alright.

La Rosita on North Avenue in Glendale Heights has a taqueria inside and makes some good eats for cheap.

I have to disagree on La Pasadita - I ate there once and felt it was a poor example of a taqueria. The steak tacos were stringy and the other offerings were not good at all.

Other offerings? 5 items total on the menu....one of the most consistantly good products I have had in the city.

1 mile east of No Way Jose in Lombard is La Fonda Isabel which is about the best overall Mexican restaurant i've been to. Awesome lunch specials.

About 2- 3 blocks east of No Way Jose is Los Burritos Tapatios which has some of my favorite steak tacos of all time. (There's a few around the burbs)

Los Comales all over the city have a good traditional taco. One the small side so you may have to order a few more than you normally do but well worth it. One of the best I have ever had outside of homemade.

Tacos Endriada 33rd and Halsted. Decent no frills.

Can't remember the name. On 35th street just west of Halsted on the south side of street. Very ,very good food. Tacos are excellent. If I have my say when I come home to visit this is where I go.

Garcia's in Lincoln Square on North Western is also decent, especially at 2am. Some of the hottest salsa verde I have ever eaten, however.

I frequent both... um... frequently.

Love the taco buffet bar at La Fonda Isabel.

Los Burritos Tapatios is alright, but sometimes a bit pricey. I prefer a taco dinner with three tacos as opposed to the 2-taco combo they usually have on the menu.

I'd definitely have to agree on the 3 vs 2 combo. Tapatios also has some of the best salsa (hot and mild) i've ever had.

Garnachas on the lunch menu at Fonda is my favorite and those carne asada sliders are really good too

There is a couple in your old stomping grounds Ugie, on Collins St. that are fantastic.

I'd go there for lunch, not late dinner.

Oh for sure. Definitely a daytime expedition, though. You're right about that.

Found my old review:
Barbacoa was what I was thinking - it tasted like shitty pot roast. Greasy and not tasty at all.
Steak was fine - nothing to make a special trip for.
Milanesa Torta was average.

Not sure if this counts or not, but I used to really like Hacienda in Michigan City, IN. Used to stop there on my way to New Buffalo, MI. Best Wet Burrito that I can remember having.

There is a Garcia's on Lawrence Ave. in Ravenswood. Good stuff after a night of pounding beers.

La Pasadita used to have sesos tacos, don't know if they've brought them back.
