Now that football season is in the rearview mirror for the next few months, James Brown is going to make the transition from CBS Sports to CBS News...at least on a part-time basis.

It's a far cry from trying to keep Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe, Bill Cowher & Boomer Esiason in line on CBS Sports' "NFL Today", but viewers waking up early tomorrow morning will notice J.B. in a different role with the network. According to TVNewser, James will be anchoring CBS News' Saturday edition of the recently renamed "CBS This Morning" airing at 6a on CBS2HD. It's part of J.B.'s new role with CBS News as a "Special Correspondent", appearing on all the network's news shows, in addition to his continuing roles as host of "The NFL Today" & Showtime's "Inside the NFL" during the football season.

James is no stranger to hard news, earning critical acclaim for his 2009 interview with now Philadelphia Eagles' QB Michael Vick on CBS News' long-running newsmagazine "60 Minutes" shortly after Vick was freed from prison for his role in dogfighting. J.B. has also sat in on the former CBS News' dawn patrol "Early Show", along with reporting for HBO Sports' critically acclaimed "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel".

As for his new role as a "Special Correspondent" for CBS News, J.B. would like to think "there will be no limits" and also brought up a similar show that he used to host along those hard news lines called "America's Black Forum". Based in Washington, DC, J.B. used to host the syndicated public-affairs show along the same lines as another long-running news show, NBC News' "Meet the Press".

As for one day seeing J.B. sit in the big chair as anchor of "The CBS Evening News", currently occupied during the week by Scott Pelley, although he's expressed interest in anchoring in previous interviews, it's not necessarily a priority now.
