I have spent the past two nights listening to a 25-year-old male retching for two solid hours each night. He’s not vomiting or dry heaving. He’s simply making noise. Two nights ago it was from 9-11 PM; tonight retchfest started at 6 PM. From retching he moved to yelling (“The pain hurts!”) to loud sobbing. Closing doors did not help. Housekeeping running a vacuum did not help, either. He's a few rooms down the hall.

My roommate - envision Gomer Pyle having suffered a stroke while battling TB. He came in and immediately started into these major coughing fits where I fully expected to see lung specimen splattered on the ceiling. It also took him several hours to figure out the concept of the nurse call button. He spent the first four hours screaming “Nurse! Nurse!” at the top of his lungs. So I had my roommate yelling loudly, and the patient two doors down doing his yelling/crying/retching routine.

Today, an elderly woman in the room next to mine decided she would start yelling, whooping, stomping her feet, and pounding the wall.

Fortunately, I get to leave early morning, and the antibiotics should finish off this infection. EVIL Jack apparently gets to stay to have another retchfest.

CDH?

No - CDH is way too nice and good. Had I known I was going to be admitted, I would have headed there. Or maybe even Alexian or Elmhurst. I thought it was going to be a fracture - in and out with an X-ray and a cast.

I'm glad I had my own room in my 2 hospital stays last year. Sheesh.

This place has some good really doctors and nurses. I don't want to make it sound like I'm throwing them under the bus. But some pinhead administrator decided to not dedicate resources to the psych ward to allow for medical treatment in unit. Thus the mental patients end up with the general population - and this was not a real good situation the past few days.

I was really happy with the doctor who ended up treating me and the nurses who were working on this. Glen Oaks' staff is really good, but the administration (definitely past, perhaps current) really dropped the ball. Maybe with the new construction initiative they'll rectify this.

My sister was in the new building at Rush -- admitted on a Thursday, after they opened on Monday. Simple stuff like finding a pillow proved too hard to handle for the staff. Every time the same excuse, "We just opened, we don't know where things are yet." Ok, I understand that, but hearing that for the 50th time I begin not to give a shit. One nurse said they did a walkthrough of the place in October and then locked it off because they didn't want any of the staff stealing stuff. Talked to the surgeon, and it took them fifteen minutes to get led to the right operating room, again because the staff didn't know where it was. I guess you can understand that there are going to be a few bumps on the road when opening up a new wing/building, but it was pretty pathetic. There, of course, were some really dedicated individuals that did make a big difference, but a lot of lazy bastards/whores too.

I'm sorry you are at the charity hospital. But in all seriousness, please take care.

Many of the hospitals in the Chicagoland area will be undergoing major changes within the next few years. Life safety code mandates are forcing engineers to re-examine floor plans and safety standards in order to remain compliant and receive funding from various sources. This is a very good thing, especially for hospitals like Rush. Increased accountability and reliability is finally the primary focus in many hospitals.

Would have been there with pain don't hurt but I've been under the weather the last few days. I had a few people that often resemble crazy people screaming, playing music, and jumping on my bed while I'm trying to recover. It's rough, get better.
