The ugly and tense divorce between Ubaldo Jimenez and the Colorado Rockies became downright dangerous on Sunday afternoon.

Facing his former team for the first time since he was traded last season, the Cleveland Indians pitcher drilled shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the elbow during the All-Star's first at-bat. He then charged Tulowitzki, causing the benches to clear.

Tulowitzki was sent to the hospital for X-rays (take a sigh of relief, fantasy owners, they turned out negative) while Jimenez was somehow allowed to remain in the game. The righthander was tagged for six runs over 4 1/3 innings of work and exited the game to a shower of boos from the pro-Rockies crowd at Salt River Fields.

Tulowitzki later said that he didn't know if the HBP was intentional or not. But Rockies manager Jim Tracy didn't hold back, saying it was "the most gutless act I've seen in 35 years in the game."

"Five days before opening day, you're going to take a pot shot like that? It's the worst I've ever seen. I've lost all respect for him, and that's a very difficult thing for me to say with all the players I've had to manage over the years," Tracy said. "I've lost all respect for him, every bit."

Guys get thrown at weekly during the season. Obviously it's not cool, but I don't understand this example is being discussed ad naseum.

Think it stems from last year when Jimenez was traded. He seemed to be pissed off about it and the fact that The Rockies signed Tulo and Gonzales to big time extensions / deals and not him. Tulo basically told him after the trade that its over and he needs to stop whining about it. Don't think theres too many batters who are going to talk shit from the on deck circle or at the plate when the guy on the mound is throwing 98. I'll go ahead and think Jimenez was the douche in this encounter.

What doesn't help Ubaldo is this...MLB "Commissioner" Allan H. "Bud" Selig was IN ATTENDANCE for yesterday's game. He's going to get suspended, and shouldn't be allowed to appeal!

I've heard Tulo is kind of an arrogant douche and that Jimenez is just plain odd and aloof and thus not a great teammate. This is douche on douche crime and its the Rockies so it doesn't really matter IMO.

A 5 game suspension for Ubaldo Jimenez, and likely will be appealed. That's the equivalent of 1 start for this Jimenez guy for the Cleveland Indians. That doesn't seem right...
