Meaning he could do it all. Good on the mic. Good in match psychology. Good on the ground. Good in the air. Could have a match with anyone you put in the ring.

Long Blonde Hair is definitely one of the tools Vince looks for.

I think Edge was much better than people give him credit for. MUCH better. Got hurt too much, which was a problem. He missed all of 2003 with that neck injury. That was poised to be a huge year for him as he was ridiculously over in 2002. Once he came back in '04, they had to pretty much rebuild him all over again. Took about a year for him to get back out of that "upper-midcard/not-quite-ready to headline" realm. The Lita/Matt Hardy thing helped him greatly.

It's funny how Edge fucked Matt Hardy's girl, yet Hardy came out of the situation looking like the tool.

I do believe last night's was one of the worst. I don't know how anyone could think the match Trips and Taker was any good. It was more chair shots to the back than wrestling moves. Anyone in the locker room could do that. I thought all 3 guys overacted and oversold everything. There was no flow to the match. There was one decent spot the entire time. These two put on a 100 times better match last year. I'm just not going to give credit for chair shots as making this match worthy. I'm a huge HBK fan, but he just got in the way. Made the match worse in my opinion.

Anyway, to my comment about it being one of the worst Wrestlemania's - I decided to sleep on it and put some distance from what I had just seen. Nothing memorable - Actually only thing memorable was burying your World Heavyweight champion in 18 seconds and having your Royal Rumble winner not get to actually wrestle in Wrestlemania. What a let down for those guys. So, we've had 29 mania's now. I won't rank them, but this Wrestlemania, for me, fits in the bottom 7 in history which would make it one of the worst.

WM 2, 4, 9, 11, 13, 23 and now 28.

This felt like watching any other pay-per-view. I've seen 2 other pay per views in the last year and I'd rather watch them over this event (Rumble and last year's ppv in Chicago where punk won the title). Maybe I'm just over wrestling because I'm clearly in the minority from most things I've seen written about this.

I respect your opinion WR, but I'd consider last night's show more mediocre than bad. But I agree with some of your points. I think the HITC concept is dated, and no longer special. It's a match concept that coasts on reputation more than anything else. Personally, I think the HITC concept may have limited what the match could've been, instead of enhancing it.

In terms of bad Wrestlemanias, my bottom five would be:

1. Wrestlemania 9 (Hogan/Bret/Yoko debacle + bad card)
2. Wrestlemania 11 (Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam + bad card)
3. Wrestlemania 18 (horrible Y2J/Triple H main event + too many matches)
4. Wrestlemania 13 (dreadful show outside of Bret/Austin)
5. Wrestlemania 15 (too much Vince Russo bullshit + bad card)

I haven't seen it yet, but from what I read on my twitter feed, everyone gave it a good review.

I think your right about the HITC concept – and I completely agree in regards to it actually limiting what the match could have been. Our bottom WM’s are fairly similar. I would be interested what you found entertaining in WM 23 – of course that had a MITB match which automatically saves it. Every MITB in Mania history has been good. MITB could have probably saved last night’s show.

I would argue that WM18 HHH-Y2J was actually a decent match, but poorly booked and not placed in the right spot on the card.

Outside of the MITB match, I think the HBK/Cena match was good enough to ensure that the show wouldn't be terrible, otherwise it would be on my list too.

You make good points there. Following Rock/Hogan was a horrible move, and the booking of that feud killed Jericho's relevance for about two years.

I just think WM18 was way too bloated. This was the first 'Mania after the Invasion, so they had all these ex WCW and ECW guys and they tried to fit all of them on the card. Far too much filler.

Wrestlemania 4 was awesome and anyone who disagrees hates wrestling

7 was worthless outside the Savage Warrior match

8 was terrible too.

There are more bad than good WM's

WM4 will always be one of my favorites on nostalgia alone. It was the first one I saw on VHS (with the huge double cassette box).

WM7 doesn't hold up very well anymore. Hogan/Slaughter is just really brutal. Also, watch WM7 and count all the dead wrestlers, announcers, managers, and referees on that show. It's depressing.

WM8 is vastly overrated because of Savage/Flair and Bret/Piper. It wasn't that good of a show. Only slightly better than WM7.

People love the promo at the end of 8 but the match was not that good.

None of them were.

Just my opinion but Hogan Rock was the best WM match of all time

2 biggest stars ever squaring off in a once in a lifetime match. Thats how I like my Wrestlemania

Well, that definitely fits into the kind of thing I want in a WM but wasnt the best match of that show.

here's Mania:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXe7nNdTCRg

it got thru the filters but I can't upload any other vids until I take this down, which means this will only stay up a day or two. If you use any firefox plugins you might want to just download the video from youtube.

Rewatched HHH/Taker and Punk/Jericho today. No doubt about it, HHH and Taker was the best match on the show. And once again HBK was part of the best match on a Mania. Mr. Wrestlemania indeed!

I have to rewatch it later.

The actual workrate obviously wasn't good, but the story of the match is what impressed me last night. It'll be interesting to see if it holds up the day after.

Oh completely based on the story. They told a story from beginning to end. That is a huge part of what so many of the younger guys on the roster do not get, and I hope they took notice of it. It is not all about doing a bunch of high spots, etc, but you have to tell a story.

A few of the guys get it. Punk gets it. Daniel Bryan gets it. I think Cody Rhodes gets it, and I am really looking forward to seeing him get a main event shot.

Thanks for posting that, Bob.

I found the ending to the Cena Rock match interesting. Cena openly mocking the Rock (home town favorite) usually means a heel turn is a-comin'. But this is Cena and he has a new green shirt for the kids to buy....so I'm just confused as to where this is going.

Me too.

That's why I didn't mind him losing to Show last night. Time for him to graduate to the upper level.

Ziggler too.

yeah Ziggler is another one.

No offense to Bob, but I do not believe Swagger gets it. And it is a shame, because he has some gifts.

While I wasn't mad or anything I was just disappointed that this show never left me with anything that 5 years from now I'll remember and say damn that was so great. It was just kind of there. The last 5-6 Wrestlemania's all had that one moment or one match that I'll remember for quite awhile. This Wrestlemania did not have that match let alone that moment that stood out. I still had a great time and had alot of laughs but I just came away with a feeling of meh(and a pretty bad hangover to boot).

Based on the matches he had with christian and finlay a few years ago, i think he definitely gets it. (then again, those 2 make everyone look good). Throw in his amateur background and the fact he's been a lifelong fan, I'd argue he gets it more than most of the "new gen" crop. Swagger beat Cain Velasquez in the NCAA's, you could say he's the best "real athlete" in the wwe. I can't even imagine what a Swagger vs hbk or swagger vs angle match could be like with one of those 2 leading him along. I definitely agree thought, its clearly not working. I think even after Kimbo Slice (which doesnt count), Swagger might have the best ring name and nickname in rasslin. I was hoping the pairing with Vickie would help but it hasn't done squat.

No problem KI.

This is still holding up ok the day after. Thumbs in the middle for me. Far from the best or worst Mania.
