Two things....the "market" suddenly "crashed" a few days ago.....500 level seats seem to be scooped up in small blocks by brokers....these seats had to be sold to the brokers at a discount by the White Sox....
Secondly...the only teams playing at The Cell that folks think they can make a few dollars on are THE CUBS and the Brewers.

I prefer the outfield, but I really don't mind the 500 level at the Cell if you're in like the first 10 rows.

One of my buddies has seasons up there....1st row...they are fine....thing is I talked to him yesterday about this Stub Hub stuff....He told me that it appears that the Sox have discounted blocks of seats up there recently....like this week....and sold them to brokers who are wishing, praying and hoping.
Corporations don't hold 10 seats in the 500 level.

They should offer last minute deals on the 500 level seats for weekends. I'd certainly go to more games. I would hope the Sox would not prefer a bunch of empty seats that they are trying to charge $25 for, rather than have the upper tank 2/3- 3/4 full at $15 a ticket.

So they're selling the staduim instead of the team? Sox fans mocked Cubs fans for a long time over that kind of stuff...

Missed Brooks.....sounds like they are in the food business rather than BASEBALL.
Looks like a great place for the HOMELESS as the price to get in on STUB HUB may be cheaper than 3 Hot Dogs and a Beer.

You have to love MLB marketing tickets. In recent years I have purchased a game or two in Milwaukee, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, Boston and St. Louis and now I get flooded with e-mails to see "YOUR Indians", "YOUR Red Sox", "YOUR Yankees and Mets", "YOUR Phillies", etc. in Chicago!!!!!!

Why would brokers take this risk? With a small if any chance of a reward.

I would look no further then the White Sox themselves. They (as well as all MLB teams) are partners with STUB HUB. They can open accounts and sell the tickets without anyone knowing it is them and also probably with out paying STUB HUB the 15% seller fee. At the same time if there is a HOT series (CUBS BREWERS) they can sell the same tickets or even the lower bowl for over face and if they don't sell an hour before the game they are all back in the ticket booths for sale at face...unless it is a "dynamic" priced game in which case the tickets will be sold at the box office at MORE then face value.

I will also say they are not alone in this town or any other and it is not just MLB. You can bet NBA,NFL and NBA teams do exactly the same thing.

It will be a great day when the market for scalpers and buying season tickets for profit or to cover the costs of all the games you attend goes away. It will result in lower costs for everyone except those that seek to profit from selling tickets of games they don't intend to go to.

Anybody buying Cubs or Sox season tickets with the hope of turning a profit is nuts.

The Wrigley Experience has run its course and the Sox are tolerable twice per decade.

Rick......high reward potential...little risk for a broker who can write the losses off.

There are very few, if any, Sox games that a non broker could profit from. Even Cubs games are face value by the day of the game.

Last season was great for Cubs tickets. You could pick where you wanted to sit and at worst you paid the actual face value (incl stub hub fees) vs face + ticketmaster fees you'd pay up front.

100% sure Sox sell to Brokers with big discounts.

I also know as of 3 years ago the Cubs did not sell to Broker. Ricketts I am sure will change that

Those are just the PREMIUM seats now. They broker the CBOE seats and many of the seats the Players/Umps and MLB dont use. I actually think it is called Wrigley Premium Seats, Inc.

Yeah, at least that's what it was called. Are you saying they only handle the higher end ticket stock now? In the past you could buy any available seat in there and they printed the ticket up just like you were at the ballpark box office except they had a price based on demand.

Maybe they don't need to do that anymore since the model seems to be to base all game day sales on demand. I'm not sure if any team is doing it yet, but I don't think it will be long before they raise or lower game day prices on the fly based on all kinds of factors.

Wait a second. Why would Brokers buy tickets that the Sox can't sell? Even at a discount. People don't want to go to crap games no matter the price. Especially if the Sox are bad team as we all know they could very well be - brokers know that too. Especially in April and May. Cuz the broker would just have to sell it at the original face value to make their profit anyway.

Plus the Sox are partners with a broker - Stub hub. All of MLB is partners with Stub hub. If the Sox don't want to devalue their own tickets (and piss off their season ticket holders who paid face value) by just announcing a discount through their own ticket office (That's the only reason they would sell to a broker), why don't they secretly put them up on Stub Hub at a discount price. Part of Stub Hub's fees go to the Sox anyway, I'm sure, as they are partners. Plus the Sox would want their own broker partner to thrive rather than somebody else. Doesn't make sense.

Brokers don't know that. That's why they're often scrambling for ticket stock in good seasons and choking on tickets in bad ones.

Get a 75% discount if they buy 200 a game.

It's being a broker. you buy them with some hopes of the team doing well.

If you dont buy them every year, you are out.

Ok. Then that makes sense. I didn't know brokers were buying in such volume and that the discount was that significant. 75% off be a risk worth taking for a big time broker. Cuz if he just sells 25% of them at face value, he breaks even. So odds are he can do better and make a few bucks. If the team is good, then you really make big money.

How does it work when they hook up with organizations? I think we have gotten offers through the zoo, baseball, and something else this week. Do they still do the attendance thing at schools too?

Not sure how it works but the Sox are happy to give those upper deck seats to kid organazation. You always see a bunch of kids with same color t-shirts in the corners of the upper deck. Sox figure, what the hell, we can't sell them, might as well get a charity write off. Jerry will tell you he does it out of the goodness of his heart. But if Jerry could sell them, he wouldn't have any heart.
