The whole Silvy on the ledge being talked down by Waddle thing was gawd awful.
I actually checked to see if I somehow switched stations to 89.1 FM.
Please guys just stick to talking sports.

Theater of the mind my ass.

I have to say, I haven't been to impressed with the show yet. It's not terrible like S and R, and it doesn't drive me into fits of rage, but I was expecting a little more.

I've heard Waddle have Salisbury type moments, like you think I'm hot kind of stuff. It's a huge improvement but not must listen radio for sure.

Is Tom Waddle a more friendly Terry Boers ?

The guy can't stay up late to watch the NBA Playoffs ??? It's not like he has a sports talk show from 9-12....

Waddle has been a bit disappointing because it sounds like he doesn't exactly klnow whats going on in the sports world. Lots of generalizations from someone who is getting paid to talk about it.

He brings up a lot of topics and just asks them open-ended to Silvy and the listeners? Seems a bit of a sally move that you can't stay up to watch a game or at least read a game recap so you don't have to say, I went to bed early, I'm tired. It's your job dude, put some effort into it.

Not only that but isn't it supposed to kind of be the other way around. Shouldn't Silvy be asking the ex pro things? yet Silvy is driving.. The chemistry is there, but it seems like Waddle thought he got an "Eric and Kathy" gig and not a sports talk show gig with listeners who want an active participating host that knows what he is talking about.

I am sure that in Bears season, Waddle will have lots of thoughts and do well. He's probably going to have to step up his knowledge of baseball and basketball over the long run.

This show is still new enough that I put all of these things into growing pains.

So far, the show has a lot of potential if hey can develop an identity over the next few months.

By no means do I think it's a terrible show, but growing pains yes. Good show, Mike Seaver was my idol back in the day.

The show isn't that bad, but it would be nice for Silverman to have Waddle watching a few of these games.....makes for better radio.

Yea, but to me growing pains are bad chemistry and bad show organization. Not watching what you are supposed to cover on your show, that's just a problem. I guess I'll just say I'm disappointed. Waddle needs to also keep in mind this isn't TV. In the TV biz for sports you can basically bs your way through anything with video and limited time to actually dig into anything. Hopefully he'll get it figured out and maybe Harry can hook him up with a slingbox. As far has Harry helping him hook it up, that's a whole other issue.

Slingbox is out of the question, Waddle just said he is not a technology guy. Can't even text. I hate poeple who don't evolve with technology, expecially old koggers(sp?) like him and Cornheiser.

It's interesting where they are in their careers....Silverman watches everything (or at least seems to), and Waddle only watches what fits his schedule, and doesn't even pretend to hide it.

Waddle has a family and I don't expect him to watch everything. But, when you are a sports talk show host on ESPN in Chicago, you should own a DVR and be watching every Bulls playoff games and at least watching some post game of both Cubs and Sox (and this is at the very least). I don't expect Waddle to be Silvy. Waddle has too many other responsibilites called a family.

They are so much better than what was there before I am holding out judgement.

I remember about ten years ago Mac saying on the Score about football wagering... "I don't do the internet thing." He finally joined the real world around the time the net crossed the tipping point. Now look at him communicating like a techno pro with the pants around the ankles gang on the net. Perhaps, he can talk to Waddle and tell him how stupid he sounds when he admits he is not tech savvy. The "I don't do the internet" attitude was cutely naieve in the 90s. Since around the turn of the century, people who say those things just paint themselves as sadly out of touch and uninformed.

I like the show so far. I think Waddle's self-deprecating sense of humor is much more palatable then Salisbury's jackassery. When Waddle asks "am I hot" it is done tongue in cheek and is part of his shtick. When Salisbury asked "am I hot" he was serious was looking for reassurance.

If Waddle does not watch the Derby or some boxing match I have no problem with that, I listen for Bulls, Bears and Cubs information and Waddle blows Salisbury away in this department. He seems to care about the teams fortunes and offers critical analysis, while I may not agree with, offers an interesting perspective.

that's my 2 cents.

I don’t blame Waddle for missing the Jazz/Warriors game. Their show starts at 9, which means they’re probably in the building by 7, which means the guy is probably waking up at 5:30. The game ended at 12:30. If it’s a Chicago game, you stay up and deal with the pain the next day. For a national game, unless it’s in the championship round, it’s forgiveable.

Also, not sure if I’m the only one noticing/thinking this, but Silvy needs to settle down and relax. Seems he’s trying too hard to buddy up to Waddle, maybe it has to do with the age gap or the fact that Silvy grew up a fan of his. Either way, it strikes me that he’s trying to force the chemistry. I guess when you work with the same guy for several years, a new partnership will do that to you.

What else was on last night besides the Bulls game? I assumed that’s what was being addressed, or not…

As for the “hold off a while before you criticize” rhetoric, I really don’t think anyone is being excessively harsh or unfair. Seems mostly constructive criticism to me. Hell, anybody remember day 1 of S&R, people were ready to start rioting, myself included. I was banging the drum for Silvy & Carmen to get their gig back, and I didn’t even really like their old show that much.

I'm not ripping anyone too hard just want guys on the radio to give me views of games I wouldn't want to stay up to watch. Even if you don't watch, like Bucket's caveman says, Do a little research and find out some details.

It's a bit unrealsitc to wait 6-12 months to tell poeple what you think. Every business needs feedback so they can make adjustments. I feel the thoughts will be helpful if Silvy reads the board and prints it out for Waddle since he can't do it for himself.

Mac went off on Waddle yesterday regarding his lack of preparation for the show (i.e. not viewing important sports events). As Mac put it "This isn't triple A...Your in the majors now."

I didn't tell anybody to "hold off", simply pointed out it takes 6-12 months for a show to gel, get your shit straight

I'm still just happy I can listen to a sports show 9-12 that doesn't piss me off. They will improve and I think have the talent to make it a very good and possibly great show eventually. MJH was a pretty tough listen for me in the first few months as they were constantly talking over each other and finding their chemistry. I'm not going to hold them to a higher standard for a few months and will just appreciate having a listenable show.

R&B, you just said “you guys are brutal” and to give them some time. So should we preface everything with, “hopefully they’ll have this worked out in 6 to 12 months, but for now, here’s how I feel…”

Mac is one to talk. Isn't he the one who talks about his disdain for all things NBA and his subsequent lack of knowledge in regard to it? It's a bit of a stretch to expect somone, even in sports, to view every single game.

I'm starting to like the show a bit more than I previously did.
