I don't see Zeller leaving after one year. I think he is a smart enough kid to understand the big picture and that he would get ate alive in the NBA. He needs more time to develop his game, and even with that he may never be more than a spare part coming off the bench in the NBA. And from what I have heard Zeller really wants to play with this next class they have coming in.
He'll leave after next year I think unless he dominates Meyers Leonard.

The thing about the NBA is that it's better to leave early. Zeller could actually drop if he stays past his sophomore year because he starts to develop things in his game that work in college. The NBA wants to get in on them as soon as possible because they think they can do a better job of getting them ready.

Yeah good points Brick.

I am just glad IU has someone that is being considered by the NBA to leave early.

Next few years for IU should be fun

That's the interesting thing to me. IU future recruiting looks great, especially next year, but with the way some of the current players are performing they may have less of an impact. That's a good problem to have but it's not like you can sit down Watford or Hulls or Oladipo to make room for them.

With several top teams losing this week, IU is looking at being ranked in the top 10 for the first time in a LONG time.

iU is NOT a top ten team and today will be the last time this year they are given such an undeserved ranking. They lost by doubles at Mich State, showing they are not road warriors worthy of a top ten ranking. (Beating #49 NC State or #134 Penn State on road doesn't prove squat). And OSU wants a little revenge. I won't be surprised by an early knockout.

Nice call Coast. IU isn't a top 10 team, I agree. But you know what I am really happy with where they are as a team right now. Tom Crean is doing a great job and I do believe they are a legit top 15-20 team in the country, and next year will be even better.

So Coast, why so much hate for IU, did Crean's grandpa steal your girl back in the day?

Hate? No hate. i just don't subscribe to the over-the-top fan and media nonsense about how good they are. They are over-rated, that's all. And as a gambler, I profit from fans and media over-rating teams and coaches. So I don't mind. I laugh on the way to the bank. Crean is an ok coach, but not great. Going into this season, his career record when Dwayne Wade was not on his team was only 12 games above .500. That is not a career record worthy of the slobbering IU fans and media have for him. He was horrible the last three years....and at IU, he has a much worse record than Mike Davis had. Davis, in his last year at IU, started the season 15-3...same record as Crean's today. Yet IU fans hated him and love Crean? in Indiana, it's not about wins and losses apparently. Next year they probably will deserve a top ten rating. but so far this year -- until they can be competitive and beat a top tier team on the road, they don't deserve that kind of rating or the media hype they have been getting. That's not hate. Just the facts.

Over the top fans, yes, no doubt.

But who in the media has been over the top in their love for IU? I have heard several guys in the media make the same points you have. No one in their right mind expected them to win at Ohio State today. That was a no brainer, especially coming off their loss to Illinois.

I do disagree with you about Crean. He is a way better coach than Davis. He has done a great job in his time at IU. Dean Smith and Coach K would have had struggles the last couple of years with the way the Sampson era ended. Crean has recruited his ass off and it is starting to pay off.

Another part of all of this is there are not a lot of real elite teams and so there are going to be teams in the top 10 probably all year that are not really worthy of it. Indiana just got the benefit of 2 big wins albeit at home combined with several other good teams losing in the same time period.

Who in the media? I follow most of the national media who cover college hoops. Nearly every one of the dozen or so at CBS and ESPN has ranked IU a top ten team.

Crean's record of 23-49 at IU pales to Davis's 115-79. You can make all the excuses you want about why he failed the first three years....which further makes my point that for IU fans like you, there is something more at work here than Ws and Ls.

Doug Gottlieb is the first one that comes to mind.

It is not even close to fair to compare Davis time at IU and Crean's. Crean arrived with the cupboard completely bare. Surely you see that? If you don't see that then I do not know what else to say. I am a die hard Indiana fan, but I do try to be as objective as I can. I even agreed with you, Indiana did not deserve to be ranked in the top 10 right now.

And Crean is responsible for the cupboard being bare after the first year. He had some players, like Holman, but he ran them off. The first year, he recruited kids like Story and Williams, then ran them off. Several other kids came and went in years 2 and 3. The fact it took Crean four years to build a competitive team is not Sampson's fault. it is not unlike the situation Obama faced when he inherited a mess. Three years later, the economy is turning around, but who is excusing him for the lousy economy the first three years, other than his most die-hard supporters? it has taken Crean four. Good thing he didn't have to run for office on his record.

No one with an even an ounce of objectivity thought Crean would have this thing turned around any sooner than this year. You do not recover from the type of mess Sampson left in a couple years.

I guess I was expecting you to have some sort of objectivity in discussing this, but I guess I was wrong. You clearly do not like Crean and/or Indiana. Which is cool and all, but it clearly skews your thoughts on this stuff.

Wow...you think I don't like IU and Crean because I report the data of his record? I do not love nor dislike IU. But I guess in your world that means I am a hater. I think it is you that is lacking objectivity

well it has been a great season for the Hoosiers. After there struggles the past few years I am thrilled with this past season and a run into the sweet 16. And to think basically this entire team comes back with one of the best recruiting classes in the nation coming in. Going to be a fun future for Crean and the Hoosiers!

I texted something similar to one of my friends late in the game as things were slipping away. This team was supposed to be a year away from really competing and they were in the sweet 16 against the overall number 1 seed and stayed with them 3/4 of the game. This will be great fuel for Zeller and the rest to use next year.
