Another strong recruiting class for IU shaping up
Williams selects IU over UNC, Ohio St, and Louisville
Quote:
Eight days after attending Indiana's annual Hoosier Hysteria event, Troy Williams decided IU was the place he wanted to attend.
Williams, a 6-6 forward ranked as the No. 37 player in the nation by Rivals.com, informed IU coach Tom Crean of his decision Sunday while the Hoosiers were hosting their Haunted Hall of Hoops event at Assembly Hall.
The timing of Williams' decision took some by surprise. His uncle and AAU coach, Boo Williams, said he had expected his nephew to visit Louisville and Ohio State before making a decision. Williams, who is from Hampton, Va., and plays at famed prep school Oak Hill Academy, had visited North Carolina the week before coming to Hoosier Hysteria.
"I'm not surprised that he chose Indiana because coach Crean and his staff did a great job recruiting him," Boo Williams said. "I am surprised he pulled the trigger right now. I thought he would have visited those other schools.
"But I think he'll be a great fit for Indiana. They are big on their transition game and he's a player that can really get up and down the floor."
Williams is the fifth commitment in 2013 IU class and the highest ranked prospect. He joins Collin Hartman, Devin Davis, Luke Fischer and Stanford Robinson in the class. Robinson had been the highest ranked player in the class for IU at No. 50. Fischer is ranked No. 115 and Davis No. 120.
