I would have just paid someone to go buy me a new microwave.

That is certainly stronger evidence than just being 37 and single.

I would bet he's overcompensating for lack of getting laid, not being gay

I don't have the riches that come from being a radio host like Bernstein and Goff have. If I did, I'd pay people to do pretty much everything for me.

That makes a lot more sense. But I'd rather be sensationalistic about it!

If you are 37 and single you are either smart, lucky or both.

If you had riches from being a radio host you would not have to pay. You could just send an unpaid intern.

Back to this tire changing thing for a minute. Driving a car places some risk on you and those you are with (wife, kids, girlfriend/boyfriend). Being able to not strand you and your loved ones was a big deal back in the day. That was the man card. Fix it in 20 minutes or less and roll on. AAA is for the wife when she is alone. Unless you have a driver who can do the work, changing a tire is not the same as fixing something around the house. It can be a necessity.

I agree with good dolphin's point on yard work, painting and the like. There is a financial aspect that some of us have to take into consideration. I would throw in the caveat that some should still do these things because they LIKE too, but that is a separate issue.

Agreed, though I would shorten that to 10 minutes.

Yeah, I've changed countless tires over the years. Thankfully, I now have a AAA card. It's nice, especially in the winter. I can still change a tire, but obviously, I'd prefer to let someone else do it. Did I have to hand in my man card to get the AAA card?

Nope. You are old now, but in a pinch could do it correctly.

What the everloving hell are you talking about? You're all over the place. Why would an out if box warranty failure be anything remotely like calling in a repair man? That's just plain silly. If its under warranty and new of course you take it back.
And no offense intended but you're not exactly equipped to be in this conversation. Leave it to the guys.
Yeah I can see bern stine not having time what with those grueling 20 hour work weeks. How would he possibly find those elusive 5 minutes to swap out a disposal? Just impossible.
Let's not forget this is the same man that has no clue which engine his car has. You gonna say he's too busy to know which engine he has? Most cars say right on the fucking body of the car.
Its not one thing Spaulding, its his whole philospophy.

I guess I'm SOL because I get told all the time I know nothing about feminity also.

I'm not all over the place. I addressed the two reasons why you are revoking Bernstein's man card. When we called about our microwave they said they could send somebody out to look at it or we could bring it in. We chose to bring it in. They determined it was best to give us a new one.

You (obviously) are mechanical. Some are not. It would take him longer than 5 minutes I'm guessing. It doesn't make him less of a man. I could see it taking a half hour or more to do it and the chance it would take more is probable.

No offense you are not really equipped to be in this conversation either. You sound like you are talking more about machismo than being a man. If you have extra gold stars on your card for dressing in camo and hunting then you are a macho man not the same as a plain card carrying man. Please tell us what else real men do or don't do, help enlighten me.

Knowing how to change a tire? Absolutely. That is bottom floor of not just "being a man" it is also apart of being a human. It isn't hard, it isn't complicated and it could save you a ton of hassle if anything ever happened.

It is something everyone should know how to do.

My guess is that Bernstein's microwave is an upscale built-in that matches the rest of his kitchen appliances. Perhaps its value makes it worth fixing. Or maybe the model that matches his other appliances is no longer available.

A penis and a set of balls is a good place to start.

I wouldn't tell you that and I don't really get why that would apply. But whatever.

I'm not all over the place. I addressed the two reasons why you are revoking Bernstein's man card. When we called about our microwave they said they could send somebody out to look at it or we could bring it in. We chose to bring it in. They determined it was best to give us a new one.
So you went and got a new one. Reasonable response, and what I would have expected from a normal person, and thusly why I said calling a guy out to look at a generally disposable item is silly. Not only is it "not manly" but it's financially kind of stupid. I know they don't teach Duke grads about finance so I won't hold that against him

You (obviously) are mechanical. Some are not. It would take him longer than 5 minutes I'm guessing. It doesn't make him less of a man. I could see it taking a half hour or more to do it and the chance it would take more is probable.
I guess even at a half hour we're not talking about a major investment of time, effort, or know-how. So, really, calling out the handyman sounds even sillier. It sounds like you're defending my point.

No offense you are not really equipped to be in this conversation either. You sound like you are talking more about machismo than being a man. If you have extra gold stars on your card for dressing in camo and hunting then you are a macho man not the same as a plain card carrying man. I don't think it's about being "macho". That's silly. And basically a bern stine esque stab at the extreme end of the argument, so for that I'm proud of you. I'm saying that I don't think it's something macho to change a tire or to swap out a disposal, I think it's like basic dudesmanship. I would expect my sister to do that job too (and she probably has quite honestly). Yes there is something to be said for self reliance and what I was saying earlier about a guy like burn stine being this massive intellectual but somehow he can't intellectualize himself into knowing what the fuck kind of car he drives or how to do an extremely simple home repair just doesn't play well in my opinion.
