That's what usually frustrates me about this team. They play down to the competition. They haven't played well against the Orioles the last couple of years. The Sox were the first team to face Showalter in 2010 when the Orioles brought him in midseason. In some ways, the Orioles caused the slide that eventually cost them the division that year. I hate them.

Here's my problem with Chicago sports radio. If the Sox had gotten pasted by the Tigers it would be:

"Uh, uh, I, I, I, I, again, I've been saying this since spring training began, this Tigers team, I mean, uh, eh, it's, it's a thing, this, this, look, I've said it all spring and again, for the love of God, you're not gonna beat this Tigers team, but uh, uh, eh, the Sox might win 80 games, uh, yeah, 80, that's about right, but *SIGH*, look, again, Verlander, Cabrera, Fielder, eh, uh, this divisional race is over and the wild card, I mean you can change all the rules you want, the wild card ain't coming from the Central, uh, eh, the White Sox, bad, just bad, bad at baseball."

But since the Sox dusted Detroit it will be:

"Uh, eh, eh, look, it's all well and good, I mean taking a series from the Tigers in April is nice, but, eh, uh, uh, for the love of God, I mean, again, look, it's just a three game series in April, for the love of God, it's a long season and the White Sox will show who they are sooner rather than later. Your post had nothing to do with sports radio. I was simply expressing the way the story of the Sox kicking the shit out of Detroit will be spun on Monday.

My thoughts on the Sox are this: This is pretty much the same damn team people thought would cakewalk the Central prior to last season. I'm not surprised they've started 5-2 and I won't be surprised if they're 2-5 in the next seven.

But I'll say this, the White Sox easily have the best top to bottom pitching staff in the division. The Tigers are a Verlander hiccup away from being a mediocre baseball team. It seems pretty clear that baseball has moved away from football type scoring and it doesn't matter if you have two each of Cabrera and Fielder, you're not going to score 1000 runs in this environment. I don't think people have yet fully grasped the sea change that has occurred with regard to run scoring. Obviously, certain factions within the game have recognized that fact, which is why steal attempts have steadily increased over the past several seasons.

I think the Sox have a chance to win the Central, but scoring will likely be a problem for them all season long.
