Of the 19 he missed, I'd say about 15 were healthy scratches. Guy fell off hard. I'd feel more burned about Tallon saddling us with now-worthless Frolik and headcase Salak if we hadn't saddled him with Skille.

But again, when you have the rich teams carrying the water so well that the salary floor goes up faster than poor teams are ready for, there will be places to dump bad money. Teams will take on reclamation projects whether they like it or not.

Frolik had an effective stretch with the Hawks last year playing with Bickell and Bolland. He has like the hockey version of Steve Blass Syndrome now; can't put a shot remotely near the net, even on breakaways.

That's what was most disturbing of all. Frolik developed a seemingly unbreakable habit of putting soft wristers on net from near the blue line because he's paranoid any other shot will be inaccurate. He's basically been neutered.

I'd be interested in going back and watching all of his goals from those few years he was a 20+ goal scorer with the Alsip's...

No I wouldn't.

But I am curious as to how he did it...

Goals have to come from somewhere when you're that bad. Ryan Potulny scored 15 and 17 on the 2010 Oilers and he's barely been in the NHL since.

Getting prepared. I didn't expect this to be a home game for me.

Exactly my feelings. How are our defensemen getting burned on that Doane cherry pick play?? You know he is going to do it.

The Coyotes lose their top players and it makes them better. Go figure. Hawks aren't playing nearly well enough.

It seems to me like both teams are coming out with completely different strategies.

People didn't listen when I said this was a disastrous matchup, in part because of the refs.

So the Hawks are terrible when the Coyotes have a lead and terrible when they have to hold a lead. Maybe they should just not play, these sorry asses.

Again, good first five minutes for the Hawks, and they have laid a few hits, but since then it almost looks like they are gassed - getting outskated, outmuscled, and playing on their heels.

It's becoming pretty clear that this team doesn't have that "extra gear" that's supposed to vault them above hard-working stiffs like these. Kruger is still a bantamweight, Bollig still isn't an NHL player, Brunette has nothing left, and everyone still floats and lets their goalie get screened. I'll be surprised if they win tonight/ever.

Going into this season, I knew they probably weren't contenders again, but had hoped they'd at least get out of the first round. Of course, arguably the best player on the team was gone for 22 games.

I'm gonna give them next season, as they should be able to use a bit of cap space, but regardless, if there's no marked improvement, someone's gotta go...
