Corner of Chicago and Damen. 24-hour, cash-only place. Grubbier than I had expected, but thought the food was okay. Biscuits & gravy had way too much pepper for the average person (I liked it, however).

Neighborhood place that I'd be in regularly if I lived in the area.

C'mon, Fealz. Do you expect champagne and caviar at "24 hour cash only" greasy spoons?

That's kind of what I was thinking.

OK, who can tell my why it's never a good idea to put a small yellow sign in the front door of your restaurant?

And my apologies, CHF, I didn't realize that was the name of the place.

And Spanky, you had to have been there a few times to notice that fine print. Must've been during the trip that East High School takes to Chicago.

Seriously though Spanky, did your school take a field trip to the Chicago Merc Exchange in Econ class? We had to do that....all of the Rockford kids were excited to be downtown, and it was nothing to me at all. 8)

No trip to the Merc for me. I don't remember my HS field trips really. Nerd.
The only thing I remember about Econ class was the blond that sat in font of me with the nice big.......Shelly was her name.

Their 'Low Carb Omelette' signed appeared at the height of the atkins craze, right around the time Tuman's closed/ re-opened. is there such a thing as a non-low carb omelette? Always stick to the steak and eggs with hash browns.
Occasionally get them to make a coney dog--chili/raw onions/mustard. Overall a much better dive-diner experience than Jeri's up on Western @Montrose--Lorraine's can even be tolerably consumed sober.

My comment still stands because I was mainly replying to this part of Fealz's top notch review;

JERRY: Heeeeyyyy... How you doin'?

UNKNOWN WOMAN: How is everything?

JERRY: Good, good, good... What's goin' on?

UNKNOWN WOMAN: Oh, working hard. And you?

JERRY: Oh, you know, working around, same stuff, doing... whatever.

UNKNOWN WOMAN: You haven't been around in a while.

JERRY: I know, I know... Well, you know.

UNKNOWN WOMAN: You should come by.

JERRY: Definitely. I plan to, I'm not just saying that.

ELAINE: Hi, I'm Elaine.

UNKNOWN WOMAN: Lorraine. Catalano.

JERRY: I'm sorry, Lorraine, this is Elaine...

I'd change the title to... Lorraine's Diner: Dirty Waitresses and Bitchy Dishes

That'll draw 'em in.

Screw you damn it!
I've only been there once and it was in 1999...(old practice space was on Hubbard and Hermitage)

Edit: However, the McDonald's across the street...probably in the 20s.
