Feeling up, lol. I like how Bird leapt a solid 3 feet above the rim, calmly lowered his sweaty self to find a refreshing 7Up on the rim.

Usually Bernstein exaggerates stuff like that, but he was spot on with that description. When did Larry Bird stop being Frankenstein's monster?

No, Dan, you don't want collegiate hockey. They don't fight. They don't score, either.

And we're back to hockey racism.

Olympic hockey has no fights! - Burn Stine

No shit. No one gives a rats ass about it either.

And you're so full of shit about how people got started loving hockey. Personally, I started loving hockey at about 6 when my dad's friend Keith (who played pro rugby somewhere...) gave me a couple dubbed vhs tapes of nothing but hockey fights. I love how these dopes just come out and say "no one became a fan because of fighting".

I keep pointing it out but Bern Stine just comes off to me as... kinda girly.

I want to know where the research thats been done is that categorically specifies that hockey would be a more popular sport if the fighting were eliminated. Lil Danny throws that out there every chance he gets but never supports with any evidence. Something he would excoriate a caller for doing.

I got a kick out of BernSTINE taking callers and totally ignoring what they were saying and then just going on a ignorant hockey rant.

Caller - "Ya know, the Blackhawks aren't playing physical enough, their skill players are getting checked to oblivion, their offense is gummed up....the Blackhawks need to, within the rules of the game, start hittin' back...finish checks, put bodies on 'em! They haven't been doing that and it shows!"

BernSTINE - "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT!!! That is not what the Blackhawks do! They need to score more goals and not let up goals! That is how they shall win! That shouldn't be how hockey is played! You shouldn't need to fight and kill people! What are you talking about!?!?!?!?!?"

I took some creative license there but you the point. It was like he was prepared for "KILL DAT GUY AND HIS WIFE!!!!" meatball calls but instead received decent hockey fans and decided to just go on several diatribes while ignoring or not understanding what the callers were talking about.

Stop talking hockey, please.

If we can talk about something other than hockey, I want to bring up how I said a week or so ago that the primacy and intimacy of basketball allows for a first-name/nickname basis with its players in a way other sports don't: Derrick and Luol and Joakim feels natural, while Brian and Lance and Julius does not. That said, the talk about Derrick today, and how he's basically some sort of adorable basketball-savant manchild who just can't reckon with being on billboards in China, was kind of paternalistic and weird.

 New to the show?

Thats not what they do.

They have an agenda behind everyone of Bernstein's opionions. ANd behind the agenda is Terry nodding along.

Its not all bad and makes for intersting radio but dont ask Abbot and Costello to perform Hamlet, ya know (although as I type that it sounds like a great idea for the fall season!)

WGN News at 9 is apparently leading with "Is Hockey Violence Out Of Control?"

Good to know Dan's concerns are in step with those of 90-year-old Iowa shut-ins.
