RANDOM THOUGHTS: JUST SPELL-CHECKING
Random thoughts

• • Mike North has a new gig. The WSCR radio personality is going to be a boys basketball volunteer assistant coach at Notre Dame High in Niles under new coach Tom Les. Meaning North is likely to spend more time in high school as an adult than he did as a student.

LOL....LOL...LOL....LOL....LOL....

I want to know what credentials he brings to the table. That is just too funny.

I am so glad I decided against sending my son to Notre Dame.

I can hear the stampede to the door now!

How did he pass the Archdiocesan background check required for such positions?

Coach:

ND is not an Archdiocesan high school. it was formerly run by the Holy Cross Fathers, now is being run by an independent board that named Fr. Smyth from Maryville President. Prolly why Nort ended up there.

When are you doing the cookbook for us?

This is all PR, Mike will show once a week and complain that he needs total control to get the team to win and bill-boards.

At first I just shrugged this off as another one of North's sidelines, but I really have to crap the school for bringing him in. North's profile is hardly what one would look for in a coach or other authority figure at any school.

A person is willing to donate his time to help young people and yet is ripped for the effort.

1. There is something in this for him, he wouldnt do it otherwise.

2. This isnt about him helping kids, its about him looking good to others and getting his name in the paper.

3. Because of his past mistakes, people are always going to look at anything he does with a skeptical eye.

4. If this is just about helping kids why say anything, just show up. Its a typical North "look at me moment", nothing more, nothing less.

I agree with GD, let's give Mike the benefit of the doubt on this one.

However, mad props to El-Har for that zinger.

1. The little amount of PR that he has gotten for this will not come close to compensating him for the amount of time it will require. Games alone will mean every Friday night from November to March is booked.

2. It was a blurb in the paper. There are far more effective ways to be thought well of than spening 20 hours a week as a volunteer.

4. People donate time, money and energy with mulitple incentives in mind all the time. It does not diminish from the impact that his action will have.

He should be applauded for his work.

I would expect that this is going to be Senn 2. I live near the school and its already starting up with parents talking about it. The surprising issue is when North called into the station drunk seems to be the be problem here. Rev. Smyth is getting plenty of calls and emails from what I hear, but as we know, All Information is alleged and 100% Unreliable.

What makes you think he will be at all the games? My bet is that he staggers in once a week to a practice, shouts a few things and leaves. Also, he has mentioned it every day of the week and I listen for 20 minutes while driving into work, he is getting plenty of Pub out of this, its a 50,000 watt station.

Yes people donate time and money all the time, but they dont go out screaming about it everytime they do it. I applaud Mike for giving, but it looks insincere when he wants credit for it ALL THE TIME.

I see your points GD, I just dont agree with them. Mike is a glory seeking whore and he isnt going to do something unless he gets credit for it.

When I think of North coaching HS B-Ball, this is the first thing that pops into my head.

Rodeo:

After your run in with Mike on this board, you should be fair and ban yourself from giving any more thoughts on him in this section.

He's a volunteer coach. He'll show up once in a while, make it to some home games(like when ND plays St Joe's), sign a few autographs and get his picture taken for the paper.

If that happens, I will consider myself fooled. I don't think any head coach would allow an assistant to do that.

I'm with dolphin on this. If Mike died trying to save some kids from a burning building, some here would accuse him of just wanting to get a larger writeup in the obituaries.
I am willing to give Mike the benefit of the doubt, until circumstances prove otherwise.

Dolphin and Reason, I agree - until proven otherwise, he should be commended for taking time to do something like this. Feel free to have your suspicions, but give the guy a little slack. There are too many people here with an axe to grind.
