21 Perfect games in history. Pitching coach on two of them.

I'm guessing Don Cooper drinks 21 beers tonight.

I don't think managers matter much. I think Cooper played a big part in saving Humber's career. Whatever. 21 in history. His guys have two of them. Either he has some effect or he's a lucky SOB.

AJ should kick Ramon Castro in the nuts for keeping him from catching 2 perfect games.

Buehrle might not have thrown his to AJ. If I remember correctly, Castro called that game differently than AJ likely would have, leaning on Buerhle's curveball much more than normal. It's a funny game.

Almost 3 for Cooper. In Beuhrle's first no-hitter, the only batter he allowed to reach base was Sammy Sosa, who he walked and then proceeded to pick off first base. Amazing.

Denied. No number of perfect games will make up for the number of Thursday mornings he's ruined by being a prissy, bitchy, crusty, pompous old man.

Almost 4. Zach Stewart was close last year too.

Did AJ catch beuhrle's perfect game? If so...maybe that's where the shoutout should go. How many catchers have caught more than one perfect game?

No, Castro caught Buehrle's. Nobody has ever caught two. I think Posada caught Wells' and Girardi caught Cone's or vice versa.

Kenny deserves a shoutout too for signing Humber off the scrap heap. Every team in baseball could have signed him it but only 1 pulled the trigger.

After he was cut by the foremost baseball genius in Oakland.

Had Seattle not prematurely given up on LaHair they would have had him in the lineup yesterday and he would have had 2 hits easy.

I have to admit, however important pitching coaches are, Cooper is one of the better ones.

I dont know why the other organizations he was with didn't add a third pitch. Pretty standard stuff for a starter

And Yes Kenny deserves credit.

This is a good example of why Im always a big fan of the "beaten prospect" They were a high pick for a reason.

I had no idea Hassey caught Barker's. I tried to name all 21 yesterday and I got 20 of them. Kenny Rogers was the one I missed.

Looking over the list it is interesting to see the time in between these.

First 2 in 1880 only 5 days apart and then not another one until 1904.

Then between 1908 and 1956 it only occurs one time in 1922.

There are none in the 1970s at all.

Then from 1981 til now they occur somewhat regularly.

Makes sense that they are increasing

More teams. More players. Lineups are worse overall.

Though the DH changes that a bit. But for the NL, for sure.

That is a trip and a half.... if Lincoln wasn't assassinated he could have been present to view the first 2 perfect games.

Not really, though. Offense is up in general now compared to the 30s, 40s and 50s. Parks are smaller. Black players weren't allowed to play so while there are more teams now, the pool of talent is more than it was before the 1940s. Especially when you consider MLB is drawing more from Japan and Latin countries. Plus you would have thought it would have happened more when the mound was higher. I think they lowered it in the late 1960s. They did so because offense was way down. And like you said, the DH. I guarantee you that at least 10% of offensive MLB players, before the 1950s, wouldn't be in MLB if they played today

I think it's just a coincidence that we've seen 4 in the last 4 years. I don't think it means anything. Very likely we could go 5 or 6 years before seeing another one.

I think the 30s was the greatest offensive era.
