My 2nd job is at a pizza place with a restaurant/full bar etc. When I used to work carryout, I'd say about 10-15% of people tipped, usually just adding a dollar and rounding up to the nearest cent. Occasionally some people went hard and gave a 5. The girls tend to get tipped more for obvious reasons. People who are working carryout are getting paid better than minimum wage and don't rely on tips.

Servers however are making some 4.75 an hour bullshit and obviously rely on tips. I always start at 20% and you have to really fuck up to get less than that. I usually end up going around 25% or so.

For carryout, if there is a tip jar there and the girls are cute, I'll throw a few bucks in there

Tip $8-$10 for a haircut???

That is insane. I pay $10 for a haircut, and I am supposed to basically double what the guy gets?

Yeah I think not.

I've never tipped on carry out, didn't know it was required.

At a sit-down place I have a 20% rule, if the service is good and satisfactory I will tip that 20%, if it is shit I tip less and if it's really fucking good and such I will tip a bit above.

Usually, even if I'm with a large group and the tip is added....we will tip a the waitress a bit as well if the service was good to awesome.

Also, I can't remember the last time a had a total fuck-up as a server or when that was whiny or had a chip on the shoulder. Most of my service experience has been pretty damn pleasant.

Of course there was that one time at Tom Kelly's when we had a group of 10+, sat down and waited for someone, anyone to come and give us a menu or take our order, the place was empty as well....we waited 15 minutes and it never happened. We even asked the bartender or whoever to get someone to come over, they said they would and it never happened. The server finally got there and we were all like "Pashow! We outta here".

For me it all depends on the base cost and if the haircut was good. I have finicky hair and I'm very particular about the way its cut. If the cutter listens and cuts it how I want them to cut it and I like it they get a good tip. Where I go it's $13 and if the cut is great I will give them 6 or so. If it isn't it won't be as much. If been going to my place for 20 years or so and I can count the bad cuts I've gotten on one hand. It's when I lived in Woodridge and went to the Sports Clips and other such places that my luck dwindled.

Yeah, that's crazy. Scorehead must be going to John Edwards' barber.

Agreed, my haircuts are usually $12 and I usually tip 2 or 3 bucks. A lot depends on if they
are friendly and make small talk. A couple haircuts ago I got this really hot chick who chatted
it up with me the entire time and I am pretty sure I gave her a five. I get really short / military
style cuts so they aren't really having to do much styling.

As for restaurants 20% is standard and may go up or down depending on service.

I just had a pickup order the other day which is rare for us. Price was $51 and I put it on my credit card...the girl handed me the slip to sign and there was a line for tip and I thought "do I or don't I?" and I said to myself...."fuck that" and didn't leave a tip.

I consider myself a good tipper...but for carry out??? Nope.

Yeah. It isn't like they are getting your drinks, serving you etc. Someone made the food and the counter person hands it to you.

No tip required for that.

My wife just said that whomever tips on carryout is a fucking idiot, and I agree.

The main reasons you order carry out and leg it out yourself is because you want to (A) save time, and (B) save the extra "tax" of a tip.

They are getting paid for making the item and putting it in the bag already by the purchase price. Are people really that silly?

Now, if you have a hottttt ass girl working at the carryout joint? That might be an entirely different scenario altogether.

I would not only tip her, I'd give her the WHOLE thing !!! 8)

People that make these "Should I tip....." websites are probably people that work in those industries. I still have never heard of tipping on carryout, and I never will. The same should go for coffee. Whoever started the tip jar on the counter is a fucking genius. I can't people some saps are dumb enough to put money in there.

People Douchebag Tips:
Waiter/Waitress
Bartender
Barber
Valet
Dog Groomer (Our dog is a handful, and we take him to a local shop in town, I would never tip at PetsMart or any place like that)

I've never met my mailman, and only idiots still subscribe to a newspaper, so those options are both out for me.

That might be it.

I think if you go to the same person every time to get your haircut, they obviously do a good job and that's why you keep going back. I'd tip them fairly well. That's what I did before I just gave up, put the #1 guard on my Wahl's and did it myself. I do not tip myself very well.

I tipped at carry-out for the very first time ever this week. We got Chinese and when I picked it up I ordered a bubble tea that wasn't on the original order. I threw in a couple bucks for the fort. Otherwise I never tip at pick-up.

Along the same lines: (Since most of us don't tip carry-out) Everybody goes through the effort of actually putting a "0" or a "'--------------------" on the gratuity line, right? I love when the employee sighs as your doing that.

We get the Trib delivered Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. My wife clips coupons in the Wed and Sun papers. The money she saves from the coupons more than makes up for the price of the subscription.

Do you think we are idiots?

Don't worry. I'm sure you know a fuck of a lot more about what's going on in the world than people who get their news off the Internet. The problem for guys like us may be that nobody really cares about what's going on beyond their own Facebook page.

It's not tipping I believe in, it's overtipping.
Spaulding is right, if you go to same carryout place and tip well you get extras. Not like happy ending extras, but the pizza place gives us some garlic rolls, chinese place throws in some extra stuff because they know us and we tip well.
My haircuts are 22 and I give her 30. but she has a big rack that rubs against me so it is worth it.
I dont think it is wrong not to tip the carryout person, but it cant hurt if you do.

I'm an idiot too. A newspaper subscription costs................almost nothing. I still read a paper almost daily.
It's still easier to find stats/standings/results in a paper than online. Assuming that you have a paper.
I do not tip my paper delivery guy.

I have and still enjoy reading the newspaper every morning. Especially when you go to the crapper, it is much easier to take the paper than a laptop.

This is kinda what I was trying to get at without saying it too.

How often do you people get carry-out that the cashiers at these various places know you personally?
